macOS Catalina Public Beta is Now Available

No, you cannot run any 32bit executable in Catalina. All system shipped dylibs are stripped of i386 versions, and trying to execute a 32bit binary fails with EBADARCH I fear for my Steam library

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

Everyone should do defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA enableSyslog -bool YES and then watch Console.app for GVA debug messages. It clearly tells you which encoder is being used. Stop guessing via activity monitor

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

IQS also got better with new generations, so the image quality on an HD630 is better than an hd4000. However, i still agree with you: it is not tuned for very high quality, it is tuned for speed. They've reached a pretty good balance now, but it still takes more bitrate to reach decent quality...

    General performance question

It could be the hit of shader compilation. Do you have multiple monitors? There's also a bug that was introduced in Mojave that causes 3d accelerated apps (metal OR openGL) to temporarily tank their frame rate if there are multiple active monitors. They still haven't fixed it and have given no...

How to Enable AMD GPU Encoding instead of Intel's?

On 10.14.5: defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA gvaForceAMDKE -bool YES There's also gvaForceAMDAVCEncode, gvaForceAMDAVCDecode and gvaForceAMDHEVCDecode There's no HEVCEncode flag, but gvaForceAMDKE will make it take the AMD path for HEVC encode too. This is all assuming your AMD card is setup...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

You shouldn't need to patch the binary, the gvaForce settings jump over the board id checks. gvaForceAMDKE seems to be the sledgehammer to force AMD for anything. I've verified this on my system using iMac 14,2. Setting gvaForceAMDKE is causing 'forced AMD for flow_id' messages for both hevc...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

I think the situation of which encoder and decoder it uses is more complicated than it seems at first glance. I'm using 10.14.4 with an iMac 14,2 board id. WEG with no extra boot arguments. Vega 56 and a connectorless intel iGPU enabled (i7-8700k) First thing: just because VDADecoderChecker...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

I mentioned this a bit ago, but after some more testing I'm pretty sure of it. They made some changes in 10.14.4 to AppleGVA that allow you to force which encoder to use no matter what your board-id is. in terminal: defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA forceATI -bool YES or defaults write...

Radeon Compatibility Guide - ATI/AMD Graphics Cards

The luxmark thing is a bug/change in some macOS API. It's not a reliable way to determine clock speed in Mojave. My vega 56 shows 800Mhz but is actually running at in the high 1500Mhz range. It's been a long time since I ran a Polaris card, so someone else may need to chime in on how to get...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

Can someone test if using defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA forceATI -bool YES actually forces encoders to use an AMD GPU (that supports encoding) over the iGPU? I'm like 90% sure this wasn't the case in 10.14.3, but it seems to now be the case in 10.14.4. I accidentally had it set, and an app...

who here has triple monitors working on Mojave?

Yes, I do. Two 1080p dell monitors and one 1440p ultra wide LG.

Name of dGPU in System Report

It's entirely cosmetic. What features are enabled depends on which kext (and possibly frame buffer) is loaded, and that doesn't use the card name for detection. All Polaris based cards have some of the h264/h264 encoding/decoding disabled by default. The card name doesn't determine this, the...

Fan speed with Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 in Mojave?

I have one, and VGTab works with it. It didn't have the fans stuck on high issue for me, but I did tweak the fans and voltage/clocks. I'm using clover+WhateverGreen to inject the various power play settings, but the VGTab 'dummy' kext worked just as well.

    VideoProc not seeing GPU

I don't know what they're using to display what graphics card you have (I didn't dig into the binary that much). However, for encoding/decoding they are using ffmpeg, which in turn is using VideoToolbox on macOS. With VideoToolbox you don't get to choose which encoder/decoder is used, the...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

VideoToolBox has no documented API for choosing which hardware decoder to use, nor to find out which one a given session is actually using. It's possible there are undocumented property keys that provided this, but I haven't found them yet. It has the same limitation as the VDA framework, in...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

This is not the case. It checks for the successful creation of a decoder via VDADecoderCreate(), which can be any supported accelerated decoder that's available. There is no way to tell the API to favor one of the other, the system(AppleGVA) framework determines which hardware decoder to use...

Can we all clear up graphics card compatibility together please guys?

There's no easy answer, it depends on what you want to do. If you care about stuff like accelerated H264/HEVC in FCPX, you'll want to get a AMD card, most likely a Vega. If you already have an Nvidia, you're going to be stuck on High Sierra. Mojave is no better or worse to hackintosh than...

[GUIDE] Injection of AMD Vega Power and Fan Control Properties

Given that description it's probably related to the 'app translocation' security feature. The VGTab 'web page' eventually calls the actual VGTab app again, and if it translocated I'm not entirely sure the URL schemes it registers are actually honored in that case. Translocation causes an app to...
