No USB at "Welcome" install screen - HAYLP! GA-X79 ud4 i7 3930k El Cap

Mavericks was getting a bit long in the tooth, and I finally got the courage up to attempt a fresh El Cap install on my little beasty after re-visiting this tremendous resource/community here at Tonymac. Man, you people are amazing! Thanks so much for all you do for helpless noobs such as...

D'oh! Clicked "install" by accident. 10.9.2 update will happen if restart.

*I* was not updating - I foolishly left auto updating on, and it downloaded and began insisting that install it. Then I accidentally clicked on "install," which put me in this predicament. Nothing is wrong with 10.9.2 except that I don't want to install it until I have the time to do it...

D'oh! Clicked "install" by accident. 10.9.2 update will happen if restart.

Fixed (?) but still afraid to restart. I worked the Googles and found the update package and deleted it, but I'm still afraid to restart. Anybody know if I'm in the clear now? Thanks! RG

D'oh! Clicked "install" by accident. 10.9.2 update will happen if restart.

I think I can defuse this bomb by finding and deleting the downloaded install package. Yes? If so, where can I find this install package, and if not, what do you recommend? Thanks!

Guide: Gigabyte x79-UP4, Intel 3930k, Dual GTX 770, Samsung SSD 256GB

OOOOH! I am so tantalizingly close! I had to dump my Asus board because I just couldn't make it happen. Bought this one specifically on the strength of this thread. Won't boot without npci=0x3000, so I need to figure out how to to edit that into boot.plist, but here is my question: not...

    Updating FakeSMC [A Guide]

I think this might be the answer to my current problems. I hit a wall trying to install Mavericks over Lion and having KP's that seem to constellate around FakeSMC.Kext, but I had an idea: As I consider your guide, I got to thinking that people like me who don't do terminal commands and could...

    Boot-looping after Mavericks upgrade

Boot-looping - progress of sorts - any help much appreciated! So I did some more reading and sat with the thing for a while and learned a few things. First - Since this is an upgrade, I am assuming that once the install was completed that I could let the system boot "naturally," meaning just...

    Boot-looping after Mavericks upgrade

So Sorry! I had assumed that my system specs were in my sig line. Fixed that. I am beginning to think I just over-wrote my boot drive with a fresh install of Mavericks rather than upgrading the OS. Possible? RG

    Boot-looping after Mavericks upgrade

Boot-looping after Mavericks upgrade [FIXED] Spent the day futzing with the Mavericks upgrade. Ran into some trouble getting the new Unibeast to boot - turns out my graphics card was hanging up the works, and after trying some boot flags, I get the install underway. Everything goes great until...

Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? [FIXED]

Re: Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? I just did! But let me see if I can distill it. After installing Parallels, I was hoping for an "Install from Bootcamp" option, but did not see it. The best I got was an "Install from Windows 7 DVD" and selected it. It was THERE I...

Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? [FIXED]

Re: Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? I think I *DO* want to install windows properly - don't I? And as far as I can tell, the problem does lie in the fact that Parallels is designed to install very simply in a Bootcamp environment, but there are a few missing/misplaced...

Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? [FIXED]

Re: Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? Thanks for the speedy reply! Sorry to be such a goof, but THEN what? Every thing I've tried so far leads me to the same point - "preparing to configure your virtual machine" wait 2 -5 minutes, then get "You need to log into windows...

Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? [FIXED]

Re: Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? Sorry for being such a screamin' noob, but I really have been doing a lot of reading and futzing - STILL NO JOY IN PARALLELS. Here are a few things that I think might be worth mentioning - one us is that I seem to have TWO partitions on...

Re: Success! Thanks Everybody! Follow up: Parallels?? Thanks so much for the reply! I already have Windows 7 successfully installed to a second drive (Which seems to have WAY more on it than I expected - gotta look into that.) My challenge now is this: With Windows on a separate drive -...

THANK YOU~! I started with nothing on Sunday, and with all the great info and tools from the Tonymacx86 site, I now have a monster Mac Pro (Asus P9X79 i7 3930k) Working on little bits and pieces, but it seems to be stable and happy. NEVER thought I could do it - especially when the going got...

SO CLOSE! Asus P9X79 Booting Problem - Help?

Solved - kind of. Reinstalled OS via Unibeast, booted fine WITH graphics and network. Reinstalled audio. Not sure what I did, but it seems to be working. Meanwhile, my network switch in my office just started freaking out. I think it's dying. Ack. Looking forward to learning lots here...

SO CLOSE! Asus P9X79 Booting Problem - Help?

AHA! Chimera needed to be installed to make the whole shebangy work. I REALLY did read everything - but a lot of this does not make a lot of sense to me until I pound it in with a few hours of failure. Still not sure why the Mobo was fighting that flash drive, and that is creating an ongoing...
