and i also thought my usb 3.0 on the case were not working as well but it turns out they would only work with something that actually supported usb 3.0 , meaning they would not downgrade to 2.0 as the back 4 on the board would?

Thanks taumaz! Setting wake for LAN to disabled fixed the shutdown issue. Unfortunately the USB 3.0 still doesn't work on the front of my case. I have a USB 3.0 compatible external hard drive as well as a USB 3.0 compatible flash drive, and they both aren't recognized in OS X.
 
Due to an unfortunately "glitch", the remainder of the posts in this thread were lost. We apologize for this error and are investigating the lost of the posts so as not to have it occur again.
