Asus Z690 ProArt Creator WiFi (Thunderbolt 4) + i7-12700K + AMD RX 6800 XT

Tool does not allow downgrade from 36->31 on 2305. Says “current nvm is newer!! No need update.”

Is there a way to force the update to allow the rollback ?
Doesn't work on bios 2204 36->31 on the ThunderboltEX4 PCI-E Card same
My wrong. I found that the efi I extracted have the same MD5 code as the one extracted from 1003, which indicates:
  1. The two efi (TB firmware update tool in 9901 and 1003) are identical.
  2. Asus engineers did not change anything in BIOS 9901 Thunderbolt firmware update part. They changed somewwhere else, maybe a switch that enables flashback.
I made some further checks for BIOS 2103 with UEFI-Tool and UEFI-Editor. So far I cannot find a switch for Thunderbolt Firmware downgrading (UEFI-Editor can show some hidden sub-menus and switches, for example the BIOS lock which disables users to flash BIOS with FPTW by default). The goal is proved much more difficult than I previously thought.

No worries. The attempt itself is commendable.

It's still unclear to me if I can down/up-grade from 2103 to this 9901 BIOS version with normal methods (EZ-Flash or similar)?

Other more general question is: the update of ME/BIOS involves the adoption of Rocket-Lake CPUs (in substitution of Alder-Lake one) regarding the stability of the system?

Seems yes. And I've already downgraded from 2103 to 1720 with the "trick" I listed.

I read the UEFI tool guide but it's too complicated for me. But if you already own a v. 2103 BIOS which is flagged "open" for downgrade by you, could you post it? I will be happy to apply it on my mb.

Just confirmed minutes ago, it works.

I have a Thunderbolt 2 devices I would like to use with my z690 ProArt Hackintosh. I am on BIOS 2103. If I downgrade to 9901, will Thunderbolt 2 start working?
Well, it depends on your current Thunderbolt controller firmware edition. If you have ever upgraded to BIOS 2204 or higher, then your TB firmware would be upgraded from NVM31 to NVM36, dropping TB1&2 device support. Downgrading your BIOS would not help, until we received BIOS 9901, which is basically confirmed as a modification of BIOS 1720, from Asus.

If you have Windows installed, after installing Thunderbolt driver from Asus Official website, you can check your NVM version in your Thunderbolt control center.

If you have NVM36 now, and want NVM31 and 2103, you can "downgrade" your BIOS to 9901, and then update back to 2103 with EzFlash.

However, if you already have NVM31 now, and the port does not work, that's another problem.

I want to give this a shot. I just realized I am actually in 2204 and my Thunderbolt controller is in NVM36. This Thunderbolt update gave me tb hotplug support for my audio interface, and I was so happy. I didn't realize it would disable Thunderbolt 2 support.

UPDATE:
I have updated to 9901 with a regular BIOS update procedure. It successfully changed my NVM version to NVM31. After being able to boot up and reloading my BIOS profile. Thunderbolt 2 works again, and Thunderbolt control center shows that NVM31 is my current version. I wonder if It would be a good idea update to BIOS 2103.
