Asus Z690 ProArt Creator WiFi (Thunderbolt 4) + i7-12700K + AMD RX 6800 XT

Hi, I was wondering if I could use a 4K monitor on a Thunderbolt dock by taking a DP Thunderbolt out from my RX580, using the DP IN port on the Z690 ProArt and sending that on to my Caldigit Element Hub. Basically, does the DP In work on Thunderbolt? It would make my life much easier.
This should be possible. Although I've not done this myself I vaguely recall others doing so.

I use both DP inputs on the ProArt and use DP video over Thunderbolt. One to my 4K UltraFine monitor and the other goes to an Acer H233H (1080p) using a usb-c to HDMI adapter out of my CalDigit TS4. As a test, I hooked up my 2nd LG 4K monitor using the DP out of the TS4 dock and it worked simultaneously with the UltraFine, so you can use 2 4K monitors over one thunderbolt port from the ProArt.

This is great, @gandem, I’ve been thinking about upgrading my z390 system with a ProArt and I’ve been trigger-shy b/c of Maple Ridge and my 5k ultrafine. This gives me hope!

I’m wondering if there is an easy way to edit SSDT-UIAC-ASUS-Z690-PROART-15-PORTS.aml to turn off HS07 and HS08 and turn on HS03 and HS04. I’m a little worried about messing something up using MaciASL. Do I just change 0x07 to 0x03 and 0x08 to 0x04 and recompile?

Yes it's just that easy, which is another reason I prefer using the SSDT method along with USBInjectAll. We should change:
  • Name of port
  • Address of port
After making these changes feel free to post your modified version if you'd like me to review it.

I have the Gigabyte Aero D, Z690 and was looking for the ProArt Z690 but could not find one so I settled on Aero D, Now I see the Z790 ProArt is available in our country. Is it worth it to change from Z690 Aero D to Z790 ProArt? I see that they are almost the same.

Hi everyone, just letting you know that this EFI works with the z790 proart. I've successfully installed Big Sur 11.7.2 with no previous MacOs installation, using OC 0.8.8 with latest kexts/drivers and it worked first boot. There are however, some creases that need ironing out (which i'll need some help with) but for the most part, it works.

I'll start a new thread with my issues and hopefully they can get fixed.

Thanks.

In what macOS is this working? Does it also work in Ventura?
This works in Monterey 12.6.2 and Ventura 13.2 Beta 1.

Worked perfectly, thanks @CaseySJ!

What is the reason to change, if the Aero D system boots macOS, is stable, Thunderbolt (and the DP-in) is working, DDR5 RAM runs at XMP speeds w/o causing your Thunderbolt controller to malfunction, and the same with sleep and wake from sleep.

If your system is stable, what are you hoping to accomplish with a z790 ProArt that the z690 Aero D doesn't do?

Note that Asus z790 motherboards may have a newer version of the Thunderbolt firmware NVM (v38) that may result in connectivity issues (when the system wakes from sleep) when the XMP profile is enabled and DDR5 RAM is running above 5000 MT/sec. I would be interested in knowing if anyone with a z790 Hero or ProArt are having any connectivity issues with their Thunderbolt devices when XMP is on?
