Z690 Chipset Motherboards and Alder Lake CPU

There's a Golden Build thread for this board, where you should find all information.

For Thunderbolt itself, the recommendation is to use a Gigabyte Titan Ridge card, preferably with a motherboard with a 5-pin header. Do NOT use a gigabyte Z690/Z790 motherboard: Gigabyte has forcefully removed support for Titan Ridge with its latest BIOS.

So 12th gen Intel works with TB3 on Ga Z690 Aorus Master.
Yes, but it has been reported that Gigabyte has removed support for Titan Ridge in its latest BIOS across the whole Z690/Z790 range [edit.] in some Z690/Z790 boards, so with Gigabyte boards we are now limited to the "last known working BIOS". If that's fine, go ahead. If you want to keep open the possibility to upgrade BIOS in a new build, consider other manufacturers (without guarantee that they won't also remove support for "old" TB3).

I really don't understand you. I have latest BIOS and working TB3. You mean, after F22 the coming BIOS's won't support TB?

Thanks for stressing that Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master still has Titan Ridge support on BIOS F22.
I don't want to spread FUD but it seems I made a hasty generalisation above.

Summary of the facts:
@ori69 reported that Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X on BIOS F21 lost Titan Ridge support. Same behaviour on F22.
@nottooshabby reported the same issue on Gigabyte Z790 Aero G with BIOS F4g, while Titan Ridge worked on F3.
@lightmanrt wrote to Gigabyte about his Z690 Aero G losing Titan Ridge and got the answer that Titan Ridge had not been validated on this board and that support had been purposefully removed:
I received my final reply from Gigabyte support after I answered all their questions.
“We have double checked with our team, if you wish to run the Thunderbolt card on this board, please replace it with the Maple Ridge.
Since Titan Ridge did not passed validation on this board, it cannot be fully supported.”

So it's not clear cut… Some, but not all, Gigabyte boards have lost Titan Ridge support with BIOS updates, and this inconsistency makes it even harder to understand the situation.
Users willing to build a Z690/Z790 hackintosh with working Thunderbolt are advised to use a (preferably flashed) Gigabyte Titan Ridge card. But if using a Gigabyte motherboard, one has to check specifically whether the motherboard still supports Titan Ridge, or until which BIOS version Titan Ridge was supported (which could be critical with a 13th gen. CPU on Z690). :banghead:
I stand corrected, but for the sake of simplicity I'd still summarise the buying advice as:
Thunderbolt on Z690/Z790 = flashed GC-Titan Ridge on non-Gigabyte motherboard
…with the caveat to strongly consider an AppleSilicon Mac over a newly build Hackintosh, for long-term support.

I wrote again to Gigabyte on behalf of myself and all of us. I described that we have been working on their Titan Ridge motherboards for a year, and it can't be that after a year they refuse to support us. I mentioned that we have built dozens of such computer kits, and we can't change the controller in all of them to Maple Ridge, because Thunderbolt 4 is no longer compatible with many of the devices we work on. I received a reply:

"We appreciate your patient and understanding that this case needs further confirmation or examination. It may take some time for the whole procedure but we will keep you post as soon as there is any update available.

Regards,
GIGABYTE"

The pressure makes sense. We should all keep writing to them until they respond appropriately.
If someone hasn't written, or doesn't want to write, and cares about Thunderbolt 3 support on gigabyte z690 and z790 motherboards, then tell them the motherboard number.

Victory!!!
Gigabyte replied
"Sorry for late update. Our engineer had made a customized BIOS. Kindly click here to download and update it through Q-Flash utility and try again later. After bios updating, please do not forget to load BIOS optimized default setting and please also do not try to overclock your system at this moment. For more information about BIOS upgrading, please click HERE."

It is new BIOS F22 for Z690 Gaming X DDR4 supported Titan Ridge!!!
