Z690 Chipset Motherboards and Alder Lake CPU

I have just built a GA Z690 UD, i9 12900 and RX6600 rig on Ventura. All is perfect EXCEPT I cannot see any SS ports in Hackingtool so cannot map USBs to get any USB3s working. The SS ports did appear by magic once but I cannot seem to recreate the conditions for it!! SOOO frustrating. Anybody know how to get the SS ports to show up??

Use Catalina:

Yes I'm installing Catalina now. Just saw that on another post. Thanks for your reply.

Hmm, when I get to first reboot, the only option I get is to install Catalina again from the beginning. Any ideas??

@charlieb58 Unfortunately, you can't use Catalina (or Big Sur 11.2.1, which is the last version supported by the XhciPortLimit quirk) with a RX6600, so you'll have to use the SSDT-UIAC method of USB mapping. Or temporarily get a Polaris GPU for mapping under Catalina/Big Sur.

There are alternate methods for USB Port mapping, neither particularly well documented but with patience either will get you started. Neither will get it completely right, as an example of what I mean, internal ports or USB2 may be marked as USB3. After running either program I always end up needing a plist editor to open the finished kext and edit a value or two, then test of course it and see if the ports I want work properly. Also kind of the acid test, if sleep/ wake behavior functions.

This version works best in windows according to the post https://github.com/USBToolBox/tool
This version I've had some luck with but it may still moss your SS0 ports https://github.com/corpnewt/USBMap

I see. Can I not use the onboard graphics just for port mapping and then go back to RX6600 afterwards?

Can I not use the onboard graphics
12th gen Intel iGPU (Intel UHD Graphics 770) won't work with any macOS version.

Was never used in any Intel Mac so no support.

Please update your profile as @Feartech asked. It makes it easier for us late-comers to follow the thread rather than searching back etc. It's also part of the site rules.

Now then, as to your problem ... I say give the RX6600 a try. Maybe even the iGPU onboard. You will not get hardware acceleration for your display, and the results will be jerky and unpleasant, but you should be able to do the basic configuration you need. Then upgrade to Monterey etc. If not, you haven't lost anything by trying.

:)

I have Gigabte Z690 UD AX-+i3-12100. RAM 32GB. And I cannot get onboard graphics and rear panel audio to work. Normal?
