Black screen with blinking cursor after updating Clover

But all this only happened after updating Clover. We go from broken bootloaders to faulty hardware, that can’t be right.
Im almost 100% certain it’s related to the bootloader because when I tried opencore before I had the same issues.
It's also possible the bootloader caused a BIOS corruption issue. There were reports of this happening before (and I just happened to experience one earlier today). This is why I ask you to do a BIOS update if possible.

Alright Im fckd. I don’t know what steps to take anymore. I can’t seem to create a working bootloader on USB either so there are no more options. It’s day 3 with a non working system that I use for work (almost everything actually) so happy times yet again.

A SMOS reset should take care of this no? I highly doubt there will be an update for my old mobo mate.

You could try and have a look - but I think the main issue is Clover. Btw this was one of the threads talking about the BIOS/Bootstrap issue (and yes it mostly affected Haswell systems). It was finally resolved with later versions of Opencore.

Late to the party but I'd recommend building a new USB installer using @Feartech 's guide:

This works from Windows so gets around translation issues. Use this to boot your main system. It may not have everything configured but you can sort that later. No need to actually install anything. It's a wildcard but won't harm anything if it doesn't work for you.
Tried this method, I mentioned it a few posts back. Same issue, blinking cursor or reboot error or nothing to boot from error. My mind is so messed upright now I don’t know what to do or tell you anymore. Ill give that guide another try.

You could also do a BIOS firmware refresh update (even on the same version the BIOS is currently at). It can help restore certain functions. This was what happened with my Z590I build earlier today. I lost Thunderbolt functionality at the BIOS level (basically TB menu disappeared) and no amount of switching, resets or settings recovered the function. So I decided to reflash it with an exact copy of the current BIOS and that brought it back.

Feartech’s method creates a MBR partition table. I could convert it to GPT but man im going from one place to another here. Also that guide holds smbios for laptop. So I could switch EFI but if the other EFI is bad then no good anyway.

The same principles apply. If you only have access to Windows, @Feartech's guide definitely works and has done for many builders. Re-read it, it's your best bet. We only want to boot your system, don't we, not install anything?

Also a good idea to do as @Middleman says and re-flash your BIOS using the same version you have, to clear any corruption.

There's no real reason why you should not be able to boot your hardware for Catalina. It's textbook stuff. Just remember not to format or otherwise mess with your existing main drive.

I would strongly suggest try to reflash the BIOS first and see if it helps. If it doesn't then we consider other options.
