I just setup a brand new Monterey Hackintosh build only to find out that its some how enabled its self to Device Enrollment Program, which would pop up and when I hit cancel, however it didnt and started adding profiles to my system.

In all the 8-9 years I have been building and using a hackintosh I have never seen this so I had to look it up and had no idea how this happened.

How do I get rid of this crap? Was it a serial that opencore generated that locked it do this? I'm new to this DEP stuff.. thoughts?

Hello.

That problem can be caused by bespoke versions of the macOS installer which has been modified so that corporations can manage the Mac as part of a deployment.

As the above is not present in the App Store version and the Recovery image from gibMacOS hasn't displayed this behaviour before, I guess it depends on where you got the installer ...

Ok... it seems to be the serial I choose.. I totally spaced that I need to check and verify if my serial would show up on the apple serial checking site.. I must of gotten one that already existed and it had all that crap on it.. I redid the serial number and it removed all the garbage..

The odds of that happening are incredibly high! What a coincidence!

I've never heard of Jamf before so I find your post interesting and did a quick search. It looks like you've got config from a 3rd party remote deployment tool.

Jamf isn't from Apple and doesn't look like something that can come along with an Apple installer. I could be wrong here, but it doesn't add up for this to be in Apple SW by default.

I think you should take UtterDisbelief's suggestion waayy more seriously and question why it would be possible for this config to occur regardless of what serial you use.

Jamf is an offering by CDW, the enterprise resources supplier.

This page describes a simple command for uninstalling the package.

I'm not suggesting you can resolve this by uninstalling it, just pointing out that it's part of the support lore to uninstall it!

So if it has nothing to do with Apple, why is it in there? Unless you added it? But if you did, you would have already connected the dots re the serial# implications...?

Curious.

Again, long long time hackintosh user, installed many for friends over years.. first time ever this happened.. the serial i was using was associated with another mac (i forgot to check prior to creating the profile config).. the only thing I can think of is that serial/mac was is linked/associated with the DEP.. i looked at jamf also and noticed all the config/remote stuff it can do.. I uninstalled all jamf stuff from finder and terminal, all the profiles where gone also since I switched to a new serial that was unused.. I have since then reinstalled the machine with the proper serial and it doesnt show up.. I guess this is more of just a archive this for anyone else that runs into this issue..

I do think the implications of what you say are very worrying. It is not a known thing that a given serial number on its own causes additional, non-Apple, software to be installed without user intervention. That really seems very unlikely. Apple allowing a third-party to modify software on their servers?

However it might be possible for a third-party to take an installation, modify it and then repackage it.

When Apple released a Server version of their OS they provided a complete, separate installer, not a flexible one dependent on the serial number used.

The build-number of your macOS version should be different to the general ones if it is an official modified one.

Could be wrong, but I'd be very wary of continuing with that version.
