Hi, ESSX8336 is not HDA device, which is why codec dump reports 0 HDA devices found... The ESSX uses the I2S pulse audio protocol, so technically AppleHDA cannot control it. But people have gotten the card working in Linux... Do you think there is a possibility to use I2S audio in macos?

Okay. If that's the case then I don't really think so. I guess your only solution therefore is to get a USB based codec like a Soundblaster X1, X4 or Omni and use that instead. These work under macOS so audio output is not a problem.

That's what I thought... It's really interesting that back in the G4 days, macos used to have I2S audio kext (https://opensource.apple.com/source...oardAudio-184.2.5/AudioI2SControl.h.auto.html) (https://opensource.apple.com/source...o-257.3.2/I2STransportInterface.cpp.auto.html)
I think an experienced coder could actually port this somehow, but probably something in the kernel also needs changes, and the ESSX8336 just isn't really popular to warrant the attention. Would be an interesting challenge though...
 
lots of people have these laptop which have integrated Intel SST I2c ESSX8336 audio
huawei matebook d15 hackintosh everything working fine on macOS Monterey and Venture without sound unfortunatlly lack of sound

Yeah, I don't know how that would work on macos because AppleHDA cannot control I2S devices... What is needed is some kind of port of the linux module to macos...
