USB Ports Mapping, USB 3.0 Asus P9X79pro Help

Tried with separate USB stick, started booting until reaching the loading bar with Apple logo and failed to reboot

Okay. It was worth testing. Clearly the old CalDigital driver no-longer works. A pity.

You might want to try GenericUSBXHCI.kext to check if that works too. Again, no guarantees, but it was modified by @RehabMan to work with ASMedia, but back in 2015 ...

If it doesn't help then unless we can find a modern ASM1024 driver, I think we may be stuck.

I was able to boot from a separate USB Stick containing the GenericUSBXHCI, and made a new copy of IOReg
which shows something but nothing showed on desktop nor disk utilities
When I tried to screen capture the system almost freezed, just the mouse was moving

Okay.

Well that shows that GenericUSBXHCI.kext was successfully attaching and activating ports. Was the DataTraveler USB stick in one of those front case ports?

At this point, as I don't have access to the same hardware to test things, I would suggest you take a look at this post. The builder has the same hardware but has used a different USBPorts map, along with both GenericUSBXHCI and XHC-unsupported kexts.

It seems he had success.

:)

Thank you, I will check and try his EFI

I believe it was in the front panel, I can't remember now because I did other test afterwards and something went wrong with that separate USB Stick for testing.

Another question I have:
I have seen within one of his kexts, in the info.plist written the following
com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBXHCIPCI
Am I supposed to have this somewhere in my system?
Did a search and nothing shows up
Thanks

That is a part of the built-in Apple system files for XHCI. It is included in your system. You do not need to worry about it.

These are my discoveries using GenericUSBXHCI and XHCI-unsupported, AND I mapped the USB ports in Windows using USBToolBox

These two devices were connected to the front USB 3.0 as IOReg shows, but not showing in DiskUtility nor in Finder.
Using GenericUSBXHCI Hackintool on PCIe the ASMEdia 1042 does take me to any Kext as it does to IOPCIFamily.kext when I remove Generic.

Does anyone know if this sort of “achievement” signals that soemthing else can be done to make these two front ports work?

Thanks

"IOPCIFamily.kext" is the standard Apple USB parent kext.

Your ASMedia ports are being recognised by macOS now, and we can see a device attached - Datatraveler. However it sounds as though they are not "mounting" on the desktop.

If you are still using Big Sur then you may be up against a built-in wall, a limit on the hardware being recognised and activated by macOS. Remember the X79 machines are very old now. We have to accept that macOS does not support all older hardware like Windows does.

Maybe a more modern, supported USB3 chipset in a PCIe card is now the way forward. (Or go with a older version of macOS/OS X).
