Yes, in fact I have left mac os on my workstation. One of the reasons why I started in the hackintosh world is because of the flexibility that a PC gives in terms of hardware, connectivity and non-obsolescence.

I had an i7 3770k with Big Sur until this Christmas when I had to overclock and the motherboard died, the repair was easy, buying a second-hand one for €50 and that's it. 10 years of service in my studio, with some days working more than 15 hours, not bad. During that time, a couple of friends' studios have had iMacs of the same generation (i7 3770 3.4ghz) that with motherboard failures (2017) have been thrown away or directly left with an obsolete operating system (2018) That with a processor and graphics that for audio are decent, even now. (We are talking about workstations)

This Christmas because of the urgency I decided to buy a new motherboard (Asus Z590p) and an i9 10900 with only 65w of tdp (10 cores and 20 threads) in total with 64gb of ram 4.5 tb of SSD at 3.9 GB/s and a total consumption of just over 100w. If the new macs consume and heat up very little but, I don't want to be updating the operating system every year and I don't want to be left with an obsolete and very expensive computer after 5 or 8 years.

Now, when I test Windows 11 at work and finally I optimiced (much easier than installing OpenCore) I don't have any kind of problem, no crashes, no blue screens and I work all day demanding a lot. I also use old software that I had to leave behind in macOS if I wanted to be up-to-date. The most uncomfortable thing is that I have had to readapt to the keyboard commands ctrl by command.

It's a shame but my hackintosh years are over and for now windows saves my job.

Sorry, surely I have written something wrong, I hope I have explained myself.

I was looking, and I found another one that I like more, FE File Explorer.

And one question: Wich retro emulators did you find??

I am currently using AetherSX2 the most and it works fantastically well. I just started playing Nightmare of Druaga with graphics upscaled to 4K.

RPCX3 also works great. Even God of War 3 (which is notoriously difficult to emulate) runs very well.

I also use Dolphin for random games of Auto Modellisata or Ikaruga. Again, I upscale graphics to 4K.

Others that I have installed are Redream, Xemu, PPSSPP, and Duckstation. I haven't tested Xemu too much but the others all run great.

I also like to run the latest versions of macOS, but I differ in just about every other way.

Given a choice, I really have no desire to use a decade old CPU/system especially after experiencing how fast modern systems are. After using an M1 Max for a few months, my i9-9900K feels dated and sluggish.

I've really bought in to the "efficiency" thing as far as computing goes. Seeing how little power my M1 Max consumes amazes me. I can't recall seeing it use more than 50W regardless of what I do. I've even shifted all of my home server services to a Raspberry Pi because of how little power it takes. I can tell you that after switching to more efficient systems, this summer, my air conditioner manages to cool my home much faster and on lower settings than when I was running i9-9900K.

I can never see myself using Windows as my primary operating system. It's just not an option for me. I've never had anything but trouble with it and I will never get used to the UI.

Do you guys still need Windows?

Ever since I got my Mac Studio, I haven't booted in to Windows for anything. Everything that I used to need Windows for, I can now do in macOS. About a week or two ago, I installed Windows in a virtual machine using UTM and I couldn't think of any use for it.

I used to boot in to Windows for games but I've gotten in to playing retro games with emulators and emulation is so good on Apple Silicon that I haven't even booted in to my purpose built PC for emulation. I get better performance at a fraction of the power consumption and setup was so easy. I'm even considering decommissioning my Batocera PC build.

@pastrychef - I'm just about to install Windows myself on my M1. As I understand it, I have to use Windows 11 for ARM. Did you have to purchase a license key? How is UTM? I bought another license for Parallels so I was just going to use that.

Yes. I installed Windows 11 on Arm. I just followed the link from the UTM website and signed up for the beta program. I have my Windows 10 key but I didn't enter it in to the UTM VM because I wasn't sure how much I would use it. As far as I know, without a license, the only limitation is that you can not change the desktop wallpaper.

Btw, after Windows 11 is installed and you go through the initial Windows setup, you come across a problem where it can not access the network yet. The following helped me bypass that:

Thanks! With an unlicensed version, I think there is always that nagging message, too. I agree that if you don't use Windows that often, that it isn't a big deal not to upgrade. But the nag works on me. I actually just bought an OEM key off of those websites selling them for dirt cheap, often even cheaper with a discount code.

I've never used Windows. I'm surrounded by it (wife, kids, friends, etc.), but know nothing about how it works. I started with an IMSAI 8080 in 1976, but it was a joke. (I still have dusty components from it in a "has-bin.") I first used a "real" computer at TRW, a Mac SE. My first Mac was a Macintosh II (color, yay!), and have stayed with the Mac OS ever since. If not for tonymacx86.com, I never would have tried a Hackintosh.
