Have just installed macOS Ventura Public Beta on a Haswell system, as listed in title.

  1. I initially installed macOS Catalina 10.15.7 so I could check the USB Port configuration with the help of the XhciPortLimit quirk.
  2. I then upgraded straight to Monterey 12.4 on the system, using the same EFI.
    • I did this just to check that everything worked with the iMacPro1,1 setup.
  3. In order for the iMacPro SMBIOS to work correctly I had to disable the HD4600 IGPU in the BIOS.
  4. I created an OpenCore 0.8.3 EFI, just followed the normal Haswell build except for the SMBIOS data.
    • This EFI is very similar to the EFI I created for running Monterey on an i5 Haswell system.
  5. I changed the SMBIOS from iMac15,1, which is normal for a Haswell system, to iMacPro1,1.
  6. I enrolled the Monterey system in Apple's Beta program.
  7. I then downloaded the Ventura Public Beta release via the Software Update preference pane.
  8. Created a new APFS Volume on my Samsung 850 EVO SSD using Disk Utility, for Ventura, named it Ventura.
  9. This was so I would be able to run Monterey and Ventura from the same drive/system.
  10. Ran the update from the Monterey installation.
  11. After clicking continue after the update processes had completed in Monterey, I went and walked my dog.
  12. When I came back 30-40 minutes later Ventura was installed, and sitting at the Country selection screen.
  13. I completed the installation wizard, setting up my iCloud account, the Apple Feedback app etc.
    • Everything works as expected so far, including.
      • WiFi & BT (native Apple Broadcom card on PCIe adapter)
      • 2 x Ethernet ports
      • Dual screen setup
  14. Went about setting the OS up as I like. I had to search for a few items that have been moved, but have it set the way I like now.
  15. Stage Manager will take some getting used to!
Here are a couple of screenshots showing the new About this Mac and System Settings, which replaces the old System Preferences.

Here is a screenshot of my really bare dual screen desktop.

For those interested, I have attached a copy of the OpenCore 0.8.3 EFI, with the Serial Number etc. removed.

Test this EFI on a spare USB, do not under any circumstances overwrite your existing EFI until you have added your own SMBIOS data and are sure this works for your system.

That's great news ! Old Haswell is simply refusing to die
I will try this after getting a new graphics card soon. More good news. Their price is dropping day by day.
I have also seen someone using iMac 21.5, 2017 smbios on Z97 board. Could be alternative option.

You can use the iMac17,1 or Macmini7,1 SMBIOS data with Monterey. You can't use either with Ventura as Apple dropped support for the last Haswell (Macmini7,1), Broadwell (iMac16,2) and Skylake (iMac17,1) systems with the release of Ventura beta.

You need to disable the IGPU in the Bios when running Ventura. You then need to use a SMBIOS from a system that doesn't use an IGPU and only uses the AMD dGPU for graphics processing. That means you have to use the iMacPro1,1 or the MacPro7,1 as the MacPro6,1 (Trashcan) has also been dropped from Ventura. This is similar to how most AMD systems need to be configured, i.e. no IGPU, so must rely on the discrete GPU.

If you have a Skylake system you can use OpenCore 0.8.3 & the latest version of WhateverGreen.kext to fake the IGPU for a Kaby Lake IGPU.

If you are thinking of getting a new dGPU, look at the RX Vega, RX5000 or RX6000 series AMD cards as these all support the new Metal 3 processing that Apple are introducing with Ventura. The older RX400 and RX500 series cards only support Metal 2. However, I don't know what if any difference this will make in normal computing tasks, Metal 3 is probably aimed at gaming.

Thanks for the explanation. I will be getting a 6000 series graphics card. metal 3 may also improve video editing and 3d animation workflows.

and iMac 18,2 or 18,3 SMBIOS may have issues with it, as it was a RX580 config, where as iMac Pro 1,1 had Vega card.

I have a fully functional Skylake system running Monterey 12.5, OpenCore 0.8.3 & the latest version of WhateverGreen.kext. I have been trying to upgrade my cloned backup drive with this exact same setup to Ventura Beta, but keep getting an endless reboot loop. Any thoughts?

Skylake has been dropped, you will need to use iMac18,x

You should update all the kexts in your EFI; not just Lilu, not just WEG, all of them.

The latest versions of Lilu.kext and WhateverGreen.kext support using a Fake Kaby Lake ID for a Skylake IGPU when running macOS Ventura.

Skylake has been dropped, use iMac18,1 instead

I am using iMac18, 3 and had already replaced every kext in my EFI with the latest available builds. Do you think the problem is that I am using iMac18, 3 (which boots fine with Monterey 12.5) instead of iMac18, 1?
