Z690 Chipset Motherboards and Alder Lake CPU

What is your RAM and how many pieces do you have? The instability of the Alder Lake platform sometimes results from the lack of proper operation of a given RAM model. Turn off the XMP profile in BIOS and conduct tests.
The system isn’t unstable with the old EFI, just the new one that @StefanAM just made for me.

Hi all just wanted to report back that I have finally fixed my weird sleep issue. I used to have a problem where after 6-9 sleep cycles then my hack would just completely shut down on sleep. It turns out it is related my RAM XMP (Kingston Fury 5600 Mhz 64gb CL40 kit). I tried to manually loosen the timings down to CL50 and even running it at 5200 Mhz and it didn't seem to help.

I finally got fed up with this for about 3 months and decided to buy another 64gb kit from G.Skill running at 5600mhz CL42 and so far I am on my ~ 20th sleep cycle and it's been stable so far.

I have also disabled my BluetoothD kill on wake script since I used to have BluetoothD running at 100% on wake which might be related to my previous XMP problem. **UPDATE** looks like I still need to use the BluetoothD script since it still show high cpu usage once in a while.

I have found this: Stack

It looks like Apple have removed the Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer option in MacOS Monterey (12.2.1) for some reason.

I have tryed this Bluesnooze and worked!!

Hi Heuristic -
I was looking to upgrade into Alder Lake. I was contemplating on the MSI Meg z690i unify mobo. In terms of itx builds it seems like not many are using this.

I wanted to ask you if you ever got your Thunderbolt issue resolved. Also curious to know the state of your system. Are you still working through some kinks?
I had the same issue with that board and Thunderbolt. The various version of the BIOS do not seem to be macOS friendly. Fortunately, I was able to send it back, and I am using an Asus Rog Strix Z690 Gaming I which is a much better choice IMO.

My BT Apple keyboad and trackpad connected with BT whistle are waking the hackintosh.
Monterey 12.4 21F79.

Hi Leesureone,
Thank you for sharing your experience with that mobo. That’s a bummer to hear. I guess I’ll just pick up an asus board.

Yes that's a super bummer to hear. It's been years since Hackintoshes have been around, yet these manufactures still don't notice us. I don't get it. I guess i will be sending this board back. I really wanted an ITX build but guess will have to just go fugly big.

BTW if anyone has any recommendations for me lmk. Use case is low latency music studio needing at least 64GB RAM. Was looking at an i9-12900. However, I realized, if I was going this route, minds well go with i9-12900KF because you need an external GPU if you plan on running Alder Lake and DDR5. Also heard Monterey is quirky w/ many GPU's.

So my question I guess is, what recommendations for:
1. GPU (cheaper better as I don't care about graphics if i can use Thunderbolt/USB-C to HDMI.
2. Which MB's are Thunderbolt/USB-C to HDMI friendly?
3. Is DDR5 boards even worth it? Will I have more success with Alder Lake on DDR4?
* prefer smaller boards over bigger but also don't mind paying more for premium components like Thunderbolt 4, etc.

The Asus ITX board in my signature is worth a look. Lots and lots of other ways to go one being here. @NorthAmTransAm is using his setup at least partially for music production.
