October 18th 2021 Apple Event: M1 Pro/Max MacBook Pros

No major changes expected. ARM technology has limitations - not good for
desktop computers . On the other hand Intel/AMD announced new CPU/GPU.
The difference will be more and more because Apple stay with ARM and still
use old Intel Gen CPUs (probably discontinued within a few years ) .

ARM chipset/CPU are designed for mobile devices only. So limitations are obvious.
For example :

- max 16 GB memory
- no add on slots for other NVME/SSD drives
- no PCIe slots for upgrade/add graphic card
- no possible CPU upgrade
- no support for NVME PCIe 4 gen drives etc...

That makes an ARM-based hardware will never be a competitor to Intel/AMD
desktop computers. OK if You need mobile device laptop/mac mini for rather home use
that works. On the other hand for home use - old pc hackintosh fo 300$ is enough )
People who are looking for serious gaming or workstation must go to PC.

It will be a year since the M1 release and no progress at all.

OK everyone, this thread is not for debating about CPUs/Chipsets etc. It's about the Apple event. Post about what you would like to see at that event.

There have already been many threads arguing over whether M1 and ARM are good or not. Start your own new thread in another forum if you want to debate that topic. Thanks in advance.

I'm ordering one as soon as available. I will probably continue my Hackintosh journey with a Z590 or Z690... We will have to wait and see. And @trs96 thank you for pulling back on topic. But... "ARM blah blah blah Intel blah blah blah..."

As far as I know this is wrong and it's actually pretty close to what I'm eager to see at this event. The M1X and preferably a new M1X Mac Mini.

It should have 32 GB memory (no 16 GB limitation).
It should feature more Thunderbolt/USB-C connectors for NVME/SSD drives (if you want slots, just get an external case).
It should have an updated GPU (I don't use it for gaming but it should be more solid for 3D than the M1 is).
It should work with UHDUltraWide monitors (which the M1 still doesn't).
It should have a way to connect to at least 3 monitors, preferably more (M1 is just 2).
Nobody does CPU upgrades anyway - you almost always need (or want) at least a new motherboard/RAM (probably PSU as well if it has aged) with a CPU upgrade anyway. I don't need CPU upgrades.
NVME PCIe 4 gen drives can be supported by an external HDD/SSD case. Internal Apple SSDs are very fast anyway.

That's what is rumored about M1X so far and exactly what I want. And I want it in 2021 because I have some money to spend before the end of year taxes.

Excited for the event! Here's to hoping for a 64gb ram option and M1X mac mini. Would be nice to see a Ice Lake Xeon MacPro8,1 too but probably not

I'd like to see new refresh Intel 11 gen CPU computers on this event . But probably not.
This event is very important - to be or not to be for apple computers )

If what you read from various forums is true or partly true, the 14/16" MacBook Pro should be a hell of a machine if you 'max it up'.
Of course as always there will be the price tag. But then high end Intel laptops are not cheap ether.
MagSafe charging port... Most of my mates using MacBook Pro are not too bothered by it. In these days of WFH/WFO
they do not want to carry a PSU or buy an extra one. At the office they use a USB-c docking station which charges, network, 2 extra montitors, etc... On a funny notes the same Docking station is used by Windows users. One solution fit all
