[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

It's okay to upload. Once I've downloaded the file I'll let you know so you can delete the attachment.

Update:
  • OWC has this item (I think), but macOS is not listed as a supported operating system:

Ah, yeah that runs the same Chip essentially. Here is my ioreg file. I am pretty certain its PEG0 and PEG1, and Im hopeful that if OWC has it that perhaps folks would be able to get it to play nice.

I use this same card in several FreeBSD servers in IT made and it just directly passes the SATA drives to the system. It just passes them directly through in windows, so I am hopeful that I can just allow Mac OS to "see" the device and then can see the SATA Bluray Drives.

Thanks @CaseySJ

Before anything else Double check if CFG-Lock is Disabled in BIOS
@CaseySJ, I knew it supposed to be disabled, but I missed it during the procedure. It solved the problem. Thank you so much, as always!

Hi @CaseySJ. First, I want to thank you for your help for all of us that follow this build. It help me so much to buy the good parts and build my hackintosh. I manage to build mine and upgrade to Catalina few months ago, but I still have few problems. I can't restart or shut down my computer normally, I have to force it. Do you have a idea from where it can come? I'm actually at 10.15.3 version of Catalina, do you think that I can upgrade Catalina to the last version without problems? Thanks for your time and help.

PS: Let me know if you need any files to check.

Yes you can, make a full backup first, also update your BIOS to one of recommended versions (see Post #1 - Quick References spoiler)

If everything is correctly configured as Casey's guides then it may come from your hardware, USB/Thunderbolt or else

I could use some help or advice from you Thunderbolt guru's.

Can hot plug Thunderbolt be enabled on the GA-Z170X-UD5 TH board? I'm on latest OC and have some very weird TB/USB 3 Type C issues happening. Depending on what's plugged in, I get no Thunderbolt unless I have a USB Type C flash drive plugged into the 2nd port. If I plug two OWC bus powered TB adapters in at the same time, neither works. But, If I only have one plugged in, it works IF I have a Type C thumb drive in the other port.... very strange.

I would love to hot plug TB on this machine and be able to use two ports or USB Type-c at the same time. I am attaching my zipped EFI without S/N as well as an IOReg dump, hopefully in the correct format. If it's not possible to Hot plug or use both the OWC Bus Powered M2 enclosures just let me know... The IOReg is with one of the OWC externals and one Samsung 128G USB Type-C attached. I was not sure if the IOReg has serial number in it, and I'm at work on Windows so can't open it to check.

What is your macOS version?

My question/problem:
1, Problem: This is the most annoying one and I can't find out what triggers it: computer freezes. When I successfully did a clean install I have not had any, but for the last 2 weeks I have been plagued with random freezes. One was persistent when I was exporting a video in DaVinci Resolve, but now immediately triggers when I open up Safari. Everything else works just fine, but as soon as I open Safari my computer hangs an I need to hard restart it. Any clue...? I have been able to log in holding shift at user login as that doesn't open any programs at startup. Included in this post my config.plist (removed my SN) and below the Apple Crash Report after a reboot (3 in total)
Hello @wieerik,

Let's address this issue systematically:
  • The freezes started 2 weeks ago. What changed at that time? New versions of Da Vinci Resolve? New update of Catalina?
  • The crash log points the finger at:
    • colorsync.useragent
      • Provides services for ColorSync framework.
    • ImageIOXPCService
      • This is a somewhat rare problem with Safari. See for example this link.
  • Do you have a full backup of the system from 2 weeks ago or earlier?
  • If you don't have a full backup from before the crashes started, do you have a spare 128GB or 256GB SATA SSD that you can mount either in an external USB 3.0 enclosure or an available internal SATA port?
    • It would be a good idea to install fresh copy of Catalina on the spare SSD using the same serial numbers you're using now.
    • The without installing Resolve or any other "heavy" third-party app, test Safari.
    • Then install one heavy third-party app at a time and check system stability.
    • Continue until all apps are installed.
    • If system remains stable, it will be necessary to make this the primary system by copying all documents and files to this disk (Finder can do that) until it is a complete system.
    • Then make a backup of the internal SSD and clone this external SSD to the internal SSD.

2, question: Dual GPU and/or eGPU support. I have been lucky to buy a second AMD VII for cheap 2nd hand before the mayor chip shortage. I've had it in this system (when I was on Clover) but I never had the feeling it really gave a performance boost. They where both present in System Report but it was working unstable. I removed the card and put it in an eGPU enclosure to use it with my Macbook. Still doing that currently, but I would like to use it in this system as well through TB3. It doesn't get recognised though. Neither did it on Clover. Is there something I need to edit in the config file to get it working? Have not been able to test TB3 on OC with other hardware, but other TB3 hardware has been working on Clover so I think it's an eGPU thing.

That's all, thanks is advance
eGPUs unfortunately require Thunderbolt Bus, which in turn requires flashing the on-board controller. This is a risky procedure and requires careful attention to detail. I would definitely recommend installing the second GPU into an internal PCIe slot rather than eGPU.
