Installation of Big Sur using OpenCore fails (i7-8700K, UHD Graphics 630, ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING)

That usually means that your USB port has become deactivated during boot.

Try a USB2 port like those two to the right of the HDMI port on the back-panel.

If that fails too, then perhaps install USBInjectAll.kext in your EFI/OC/kexts folder and enable it in your config.plist.

Try again.
I was able to boot the installer using @Aniruth 's EFI and USB 2.0 ports!

I don't really understand the contents of @Aniruth 's EFI, but is it safe to continue using it?

I'll report back with the results of the installation.

No idea what you are attempting here, sorry.

The <key>SystemProductName</key> is not usually entered via the NVRAM section of your config.plist. It is a part of the <key>PlatformInfo</key>, sub-sections <key>DataHub</key> and <key>Generic</key> along with other items such as UUID and Serial Number.

Or perhaps your comment was actually for @Aniruth ?

:)
Then I realized that my post was wrong.
It's actually in PlatformInfo.
Please replace it with the one in PlatformInfo.

Although a lot of people do not like the OpenCore Configurator app, in your case, as you are learning as you go, it would be a good idea to try it and get a visual presentation of what you are doing.

Once you load your config.pist you will see what I mean. The sections and tabs make understanding a lot easier.

On first load it will ask if it can update itself.

Please do not use the EFI folder uploaded to this thread.

:)

I challenge myself to understand it, but I still find it difficult.
I have tried using OpenCoreConfigurator, but it takes a lot of time to identify which of the EFI's in this thread are working well.

I figure if I can get around the ACPI Error, I can boot the installer.

In that case, should I port the contents of the ACPI folder one by one first?

Don't be afraid to build your own EFI folder and config.plist. OpenCore Configurator is ideal for beginners.

You can load another member's config.plist if you like, to learn what they have done, but don't use the EFI folder uploaded to this thread.

The ACPI you mentioned in your first post in this thread, looked fine. If was just the system-definition I had an issue with and suggested an alternative.

I understand that regular use of EFI in this thread is not a good idea.

I am making an effort to create a custom EFI if I can.
Since I was able to change the model number of the EFI in this thread, which I was able to confirm booting, to MacPro7,1, I decided that this value would not have much effect.

And am I correct in assuming that EFI is a boot-related trick and has no effect on what is installed by the macOS installer?
If that's the case, then I can do a trial and error custom EFI with macOS installed first.

I have that board while I am not using the onboard intel UHD 630, I just use Pastrychef's EFI with a different USB map.

EDIT:

Attached is my USB map.

The ports enabled are HS03,HS04,HS05,HS06,HS11,HS12,HS13,HS14 & SS03,SS04,SS05,SS06 if you want to practice making your own with out sorting all the ports.

The reason I asked you not to use the EFI uploaded to this thread is because it was for a pirated version of macoS - which is against site rules. It has now been removed.

Instead use the EFI @scottkendall pointed you to, to learn from.

The system-definition you choose in your EFI does affect how macOS runs, or why else have different ones? But yes, you can install first and then experiment. Just so long as the definition you use to install gives you a display output.

Thank you!

I'll incorporate it and give it a try.
