Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

back to my question a few posts ago on the AMD 6xxx series. someone said that video acceleration is not supported yet. What will happen to my system if I simply install a 6xxx series video card? will it be able to boot and will I be able to use the system amid not the expected performances? I am mainly using it for basic stuff like email, netflix, surfing the net (usually new2s, youtube, etc.) and also from time to time with Lightroom but no intensive processing (just adjusting exposure, WB, etc.).
The reason is that if I put 2 video cards in my system until 6XXX series are supported, I might have to change my power supply (because my understanding is that even if I disable the 6XXX under macos I still need to provide power to the card and the power supply does not have the extra power output connectors).
Hence if I can boot and use the system and it is not sluggish when using it the way I use it now, then I am ok to install such a video card until time comes to get the support in big sur. And if this never happens, then I'll think of changing the power supply and reintroduce my 5600 XT.
Thanks
You can install any video card, even Nvidia RTX 2070, 2080, 3060, 3070, 3080, 3090. And of course any AMD video card, even RX 6800 and 6900.

None of these GPUs will give you accelerated performance, but all of them will invoke Apple's standard VGA driver. In IOReg you will see the generic video driver:

IONDRVFramebuffer

Windows will move sluggishly, animations may be painful if any, windows will scroll at the speed of a snail, and then you will run for the tool shed to pick up the biggest and baddest hammer to smash the machine. :) Does that qualify as "working"?

My i225V ethernet suddenly died...No MAC address and not detected on Windows or OSX :banghead:
i tried to reflash the firmware with firmware tool 1.45 on Gigabyte download page but no luck.
BIOS should be flashed from within BIOS Setup. Please try BIOS F5 first. If the LAN port is still inactive, it may be necessary to contact Gigabyte Tech Support.

The best Nvidia card that still has full driver support in macOS Big Sur is the GTX Titan Z which will turn 7 years old this May. The problem is that new ones still sell for over $1000. It's performance isn't a whole lot better than a 5600 XT either.

Thanks @CaseySJ So you mean it's safe for me to reflash back BIOS F5 over F20a?

hmmm.... I don't have a big hammer but I am sure I can find something else to smash the machine :) Thanks for the answer. Don't have really a choice now :( Have to wait or get a 6XXX card and a new power supply. Too much $$$ in the current situation :)

Yes it’s okay to go back to F5. BIOS F20a has been deleted by Gigabyte. Too many issues with it.
I've reflashed F5 Bios succesfully but no luck...i225V looks dead.
i've contacted Gigabyte support...

From memory, when I had a Mint drive attached to my machine, I had to enable RebuildAppleMemoryMap in config.plist.

There may have been 1 other setting but I can’t remember off hand atm.

i’ll have a look tomorrow to see if it jogs my memory.
The RebuildAppleMemoryMap was already checked when viewed with OpenCoreConfigurator, so that didn't help, but thanks for the suggestion.

Does anyone know what to do if your Fenvi FT-919 card does show Bluetooth and WiFi connection but does not enable handoff or unlock with Apple Watch?

First time I booted with this card inserted it showed Bluetooth in Systeminfo but it would not find or connect to my trackpad.

When I booted into a clean live install MacOS from USB stick I could see the trackpad and connect to it without problem.

After that I rebooted into the fully installed MacOS again and I could directly work with the trackpad without any problems or connecting again.

But handoff does not work but it is turned on in Preferences. Also it can’t turn on unlock with Apple Watch. It keeps loading but does not do anything.

Does anyone know what to do to fix this?

I did try the intel WiFi+BT EFI in the past but got rid of it before I installed this Fenvi card. And I’m using the normal O.C. 0.6.5 again.
Anyone?

Just checked, the other setting I needed to enable was SyncRuntimePermissions. Just enabling both of those showed the linux drive in the picker - no need to play around with efi partitions.
