Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

** OpenCore 0.6.5 EFI for Z490 Vision D **
Supports both Catalina and Big Sur
Please do not quote this post in its entirely. Use a link instead.

Requires OpenCore Configurator 2.22.0.0 or Newer

NOTE: If you are using OpenIntelWireless to drive the on-board Intel AX201 WiFi/BT module, please jump to this post instead (updated for OpenCore 0.6.5).

The formal release of OpenCore 0.6.5 has arrived, along with an update of WhateverGreen, AppleALC, NVMeFix, and IntelMausi.

This EFI contains the following changes:

Bootloader / Kexts:
All of the items listed below are official builds.
  • OpenCore 0.6.5
  • WhateverGreen 1.4.6
  • AppleALC 1.5.6
  • NVMeFix 1.0.5
  • IntelMausi 1.0.5
config.plist Changes:
  • Misc --> Security --> SecureBootModel --> Disabled (change to Default for OpenIntelWireless)
  • Misc --> Security --> BlackListAppleUpdate --> Enabled
How to Use:
  1. Find a USB flash disk with an EFI partition, or format the USB flash disk in Disk Utility with Scheme = GUID Partition Map and Format = MacOS Extended (Journaled).
  2. Mount EFI partition of the USB flash disk.
  3. Download the attached ZIP into the top level of the EFI partition of the USB flash disk. When the file is unzipped, there will be a folder called OC-065-VISION-D.
  4. Rename this folder to EFI, otherwise the system will not boot.
  5. Use HackinDROM to transfer PlatformInfo from existing OpenCore config.plist to new version. Please follow the guide by clicking here and see screenshot below.
Screen Shot 2021-01-04 at 2.13.24 PM.png
After the modified config.plist has been copied to the EFI/OC folder of the USB flash disk, proceed as follows:
  1. Reboot and press F12 at the BIOS Splash Screen. When the BIOS Boot Menu (not OpenCore Picker) appears, select the USB flash disk.
  2. Warning: It is necessary to Reset NVRAM one time prior to booting macOS. This can be done by pressing spacebar at the OpenCore Picker and choosing Reset NVRAM. On multi-boot systems, select the default startup disk in System Preferences --> Startup Disk.
  3. At the OpenCore 0.6.5 Picker menu, select and boot the internal macOS disk.
  4. If everything works correctly, copy the new OpenCore EFI folder from the USB flash disk to the EFI partition of the main macOS SSD.
CAUTION:
  • If you are using a custom Thunderbolt SSDT or any other custom SSDTs or Kexts, please update your config.plist accordingly.
  • During startup or reboot, the Gigabyte splash screen may take several seconds to clear, which means the OpenCore Picker GUI will take more time to appear. If this happens, the delay could be fixed by removing AudioDxe.efi from the OpenCore config.plist.
Updates:
  • 08 Jan 2021: If your system does not boot with the standard OC-065-VISION-D ZIP, try OC-065-VISION-D-FAKE-CPU ZIP instead. Most users should stay with the first version.

Because you're using an AMD RX 580, platform ID 0x3E980003 is strongly recommended, which disables video output from the iGPU but keeps the iGPU enabled for "compute" tasks such as video encoding and decoding.
Actually I used the hackintosh without rx580 for a couple of days but because of the no hdmi audio and sleep unplug/replug thing I popped in my old rx580 from my other clover build. I can do without iGPU audio over hdmi but I still want the iGPU hdmi video output to work if possible.

  • Has the UltraStudio Recorder worked in the past with this or any other Hackintosh? Or is this a newly purchased item?
  • Are you running Catalina or Mojave or ?
  • Does the UltraStudio require drivers? If so, are the latest drivers installed?
These are good questions! I am running big sur, and have all the latest drivers. I ordered a new thunderbolt 3 cable to see if it is faulty. I'll also look for another computer/mac with thunderbolt 3 to test the ultrastudio (I bought it new for this hackintosh.. )

  • Regarding the Samsung T7, please try connecting it before boot rather than hot-plugging. We've found that USB-C devices fail to hot-plug on the two Thunderbolt/USB-C ports.
    • If your case has a front panel USB-C port, please try connecting the T7 there.

So no usb3 hotplugging in the onboard thunderbolt3 ports? damn...
I think I will get one of those 5.25" frontbays with usb c ports then.

None noticed, but if I find some I will post about it.

Well, there's a release of F20a for the Z490 Designaire and the Z490 Vision D that is dated 12/28. I hadn't seen it, but it sounds interesting. I think I'll wait a while to see how they go....

And sure, there can be legitimate reasons for updating the BIOS to the latest version, especially if you're in a situation where your system is unstable - then you gotta try something - fortunately for me, I'm pretty stable, and as I do some production work on this machine, I think I'll wait a bit before trying out F20a....

But, still I'm eager to hear how others have found out how good (or bad) F20a is. As I do a lot of work with After Effects and Cinema, I'm curious how well the resizable BAR works....

The F7c BIOS has the resizable BAR option, too, and Big Sur doesn’t boot with it enabled. But it does work in Windows. I have noticed some performance uplifts with it on in some games with Big Navi.

So, can you boot macOS with your big Navi? Or, are you booting macOS with your RX560?

Interesting and puzzling at the same time! Inquiring minds want to know...
  • What is the make/model of the BCM94360CS2 that you purchased? Do you have an Amazon link or a manufacturer's link?
  • Which M.2 slot did you install it in?
  • How the heck does it have a Bluetooth cable if it's an M.2 device? :)
Hi CaseySJ,

I bought it from AliExpress, and it is a genuine Apple Card. I have put it in first M.2 slot because the other two didn't work. It has bluetooth cable because it is an adapter which converts Airport card to M.2 slot card (which is often used in laptop hackintoshes) and also M.2 supports PCIe 2x so, in a way it's similar to Fenvi T919 card. If we pop up the metal shielding on Fenvi card under the sticker, one should find the same/similar iMac card BCM94360CD.

Hope it helps. I'm just wondering why sleep doesn't work with similar genuine card. It could be because I need to change some configuration.

Can you capture a screenshot of the item from AliExpress so we can see it? If it works, others might be interested in it too.

As for sleep, are you using any Bluetooth devices? Are you wearing an Apple Watch? Is there an iPhone or iPad nearby?

We can disable such things as ProximityWake and wake-from-Bluetooth, and even wake-from-USB. The Sleep Aid contains the details.

Update:
You might be using one of these, which attaches the mini-PCIe Broadcom module onto a Key A/E M.2 adapter. The adapter would contain the Bluetooth USB data cable.

macOS boots with big Navi but there is no acceleration so the graphical experience is slow and sluggish. Kinda like how it used to be when nvidia cards worked with macOS and you’d boot macOS and there was no nvidia webdriver (yet) for the the OS.

So I dusted off an old Radeon 560 as a stopgap so I can use macOS with that, and when I want to game in windows, I use big Navi. The latest beta of macOS Big Sur does have graphical kexts for the Radeon 6000 series but they’re incomplete... hopefully apple implements full support soon.

A few notes upgrading from 0.6.3 to 0.6.5
I downloaded your last EFI folder @CaseySJ, thanks as usual.
The only note is that SecureBootModel is set to disabled and not to Default so it is necessary to change it to enable wifi.
Some notes about platform info section
From 0.6.3 to 0.6.4 some node where added and to be precise

<key>4D1EDE05-38C7-4A6A-9CC6-4BCCA8B38C14</key>
<array>
<string>UIScale</string>
<string>DefaultBackgroundColor</string>
</array>
<key>4D1FDA02-38C7-4A6A-9CC6-4BCCA8B30102</key>
<array>
<string>rtc-blacklist</string>
</array>
<key>7C436110-AB2A-4BBB-A880-FE41995C9F82</key>
<array>
<string>boot-args</string>
</array>

Keeping in the config.plist file those nodes can result in deactivation of some application that consider it a change in the computer identification sequence; so if this happens (some app from anthropoics from example) you need to delete this part to avoid deactivation of licenses.

Using HackinDROM to copy platform id from old config.plist to the new one can cause similar problems because this utility copies only a small part of system info.
at the moment the quicker and most secure way I found to migrate this information is to copy the platform info section using textedit from old version and the substitute the platform info section in the new one

just my two cents

I'm working to solve a few problems with wifi...

Yes I know about the macOS raid. But then I can’t use it for dualboot (Windows) and not for CloneZilla. :(

Never mind. For now I’m stuck on the speed of 1 PCIe NVME drive. ;)
Does anyone know if a bootable hardware raid can be made with a Asus Hyper m.2 x16 PCIe card?
