GA-Z68XP-UD3P owners

Hi there, thanks for your installations, explanations, and your files. I have the same motherboard but still with the Bios F7 version, and I hope it is not a problem to install Catalina. BTW since you have more or less the same components I have, could you please send me the easiest and safest way to install Catalina on my GA-Z68XP-UD3P? I'm not an expert but I have been using os x on pcs for years now.
Thanks for any help.

The big decision you have to make is to update the board to UEFI. It says on the opencore site, that most mostherboards of this generation didn't all support UEFI, so we're lucky.

F7 bios is legacy (non UEFI), so I'm believe the files I shared wouldn't work, and I haven't tried legacy booting, and it seems like way more work than just updating the damn bios and getting with the times.)

I updated the bios to that in 2013 when it was released, it's safe. here's the bios page, double check the board revision

If you have windows, you might need to reinstall in UEFI mode, but don't quote me on that, I installed it straight UEFI on a separate disk.

Nowadays, it's all opencore, and for good reason, all the hack stuff is self contained and shareable. Have a look at the opencore documentation to create the usb stick or attempt a UEFI/opencoreconversion if you're already running osx, you can try my stuff but don't forget updated serials.

I'm willing to help you in this thread if anything comes up.

Hey, thanks for the replay! Just to avoid misunderstandings I would like to install Catalina and not Big Sur.
Anyway, I have heard about the risk of updating to UEFI with the Gigabyte beta.... in fact, this is the reason why I stayed at the F7 version. Honestly, I would not take the risk and would rather try the legacy system first, I am currently with Sierra and I hope to be able to install Catalina on this board, I also bought an "Nvidia Geforce GT 710 SL-1GD5" graphics card which from the recommendations I read should work out of the box, it's not a superb card but for my work, it should be fine. I also need to get usb3 to work which on Sierra unfortunately except usb2 I couldn't get it to work. Now I will try to do a legacy installation with the guides, btw I would be happy if you maybe have the possibility to share "all" the kexts that make work smoothly "the components" of this motherboard with Catalina. Thanks again

Hi, I wanted to add ... with the files for the opencore system that you kindly made available for this motherboard, if I update the bios from Legacy to UEFI can I then also install Catalina, right?

Yep, has been working stable for me, Catalina, Big Sur, makes no difference, all the files are in the zip file.

I'm testing removing a couple ACPI files, just keeping

SSDT-EC.aml
SSDT-HPET.aml
SSDT-PLUG.aml

and obviously removing the references to these two in config.plist:
SSDT-UIAC.aml (port limit)
SSDT-USBX.aml (USBPorts.kext does the job)

So far so good. (Less is more)

PS: I just pulled the "black friday trigger" on an extra z490 10700KA mini-itx system.

Thanks for the valuable tip, much appreciated. I would have to ask you another question about the flash update bios from legacy to UEFI, please. On the GIGABYTE link, you sent me the "beta" U1G (UEFI BIOS) version I don't know why but after the download it appears to me that it is a windows.exe file. Now, as far as I know, I can start it directly Bios with F8: Q-Flash but I can't figure out how to flash the update with a windows.exe file, :problem: maybe you would still have the single U1G (UEFI BIOS) image file with which can I update?

Unfortunately, during the Bios update I get the ID check error, I have the impression that the extracted file is not the right format (about 4,2 mb), I have tried several times to download it again. However I noticed that if I save my current Bios F7, the saved file (F7) is black like a windows file and can be reloaded update easily, while the Z8XPUD3P.U1G file is white, despite is recognized but then creates an ID check error.
