CsmVideoDxe in combination with Lilu.kext and WhateverGreen.kext seems to have been the trick. Unclear if Shiki or IntelGraphicsFixup are needed.
I was quite surprised to find the onboard Aspeed AST2400 GPU functioning under OS X. I'm still resolving exact details, as this is the only GPU that appears in XRG, even though System Information reports that the display is driven by the Vega and About this Mac suggests that the Vega is primary.
