Hi there everyone. Although it might be an forever going question (about what to buy/if it's compatible etc), I would like some inputs from more knowledgeable fellows if it's still worth it to keep my system up to H_inthosh/PC working builds, and try to do some upgrades to make use of Catalina or just leave it into "Windows" hands only.
I have it up running amazing and flawless on HSierra; my bottle neck to Catalina is the graphic card. Now the question: Should I try buy another Graphic card most compatible with Catalina?
My build right now consists of: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 bios FD mobo, I7-920 CPU, 12GB DDR3 RAM, ATI 5870 - 1GB , OEM Apple wifi&blue tooth.
Thanks for replies and time waisted for replying.
Stay safe.

Whether you upgrade and continue with your current setup really depends - is it performing well for you with HS?
While all 1366 CPUs have been officially dropped from support in Mac OS Mojave and Catalina, it is possible to patch and prevent the version/hardware check and install on an X58 build. I have done so on mine, but do not really find any performance boost or advantage in upgrading. I did upgrade my GPU to a Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX580 8GB GPU, but that was because the HD5770 I originally had in the build died.

Thanks a lot for your reply. You are just confirming what I've been reading through these forums. And also I was aiming at the same graphic card. Also my Radeon 5870 has 1GB of VRAM. But other than that the whole setup is blasting through HSierra. I guess this is where it's gonna end my hackintosh adventure. Take care, and stay safe.

Hi chief, sorry for bothering you again, but you might be my best guidance, considering the similarities of our systems, as well as the help/input provided in the past. As I acquired a Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX580 8GB GPU at an hard to resist price(about $157 USD) I installed it into my system running HSierra.
Now here I run into issues not capable to fix them although searching thoroughly to all these posts and other forums. HSierra boots into black screen, past Clover menu regardless what I tried. I can remotely control it right from login menu and anywhere thereafter. Surprisingly one night getting so tired all fell asleep by the computer, it went into sleep mode (as it's set up and it should); returning next day and waking it up, the display lit up and everything worked like normal. To confirm this was not some random/unknown glitch, I repeated several times this scenario. Start up normally, put it to sleep (remotely from another computer), waking it up again and it works. Which way to from here?

Second, assuming HSierra might have "unsettled" things with my new setup (really old system but much newer GPU) I jumped into installing Catalina on a separate drive; creating the USB flash and following all the steps from here at tonymac, absolutely failure; the machine reboot itself right after clover boot and while loading Catalina install. Not managing to get not even to the install screen, I started the install from HSierra (on a different, empty HDD). Once the initial part completed in HSierra, and rebooted to continue the install, the screen was blank again; as others were mentioning that even with the blank screen the setup will still continue, I let it run, as I could hear the computer was still reading&wrinting on the HDD. It rebooted several times (I think 2 more times after). Now I assume its on the "Welcome" screen where you should setup your computer; cannot confirm as the display is still blank. Booting back on HSierra (with the mentioned Sleep&Wake-up trick), I see the other drive where Catalina was installed, and all the files and structures for the Catalina OS; as there are no user folders in "Users" folder, again I assume it got to the "Welcome" setup menu.

Thank you for waisting your time reading this. Any help, recommendations, guidance past this point is extremely appreciated. Thanks again.

Did you add Lilu and Whatevergreen to Clover/Kexts/Other?
The attached are the kexts and the drivers I use for High Sierra. You also need the Clover patch in config.plist to allow installation on a "dropped" Mac Pro that Apple no longer supports if you use the MacPro5,1 or earlier system definition.

Thanks a lot for your fast reply... As I'm at work right now, I'll test everything you gave me tonight... hopefully it's not gonna turn again into a very short night:shifty:.
I will let you know whatever the results might be...

Hello again, a bit earlier than expected. To see how much I got obsessed with this thing, I even left the work earlier (with the promise to make up the hours) to come home and see what's working with your files...Sadly same behaviour as before. Nothing has changed. I even changed the Mac definitions (put iMac 14,2)... same. I feel so dumb/noob although my Hackintosh history goes all the way back to SnowLeo and burning boot disks/dvds. Sounds to me I really miss a major/simple point(s) in the whole set-up/start-up.... just can't figure out what...

Again put it to sleep, wake it again, and here I am typing this ....

Please, Kindly ask for your help. What am I missing? Or what goes wrong... Thanks a lot.

What type cable to display? Try HDMI or Display Port. I use DP cable to Dell display.
