[Guide] HP Pavilion 15-AB216TX Catalina using OpenCore

Status
Not open for further replies.
I have IRQ/HPET patches applied from the start.
yep, I know you have those, but I just wanted you make sure both are identical. both were generated by SSDTTime so, should be same.
I just checked the last OpenCore archive you attached, you should attach updated problem reporting files every time you make some change. As i pointed earlier, that you need to apply sleep and wake patches to DSDT. In case of hotpatch you replace original methods with binary patch (_WAK -> ZWAK, _PTS -> ZPTS) and then add modified methods with SSDT (check my SSDT-PTSWAK).
And yes, i am actively comparing your OC and my OC folder.
But, in issues where i get stuck for hours and days even..after trying every possible thing that i could, i just come back to you.
Hackintosh isn't easy to do, and process for laptops is a lot complicated as compared to Desktop. You have to be patient, and you can get it done if giving up isn't really an option, LOL

Yes, i have checked that, but i am too far from hotpatches right now.
After reading all guides again after long time..
Now i am considering making them one patch at a time.
Now that i know, where to look for various kinds of info on failures, on OC, i should be able to get somewhere.

Yes, you're 100% correct. I am not in any mood to give up. Just trying to seek some help and learn.

Could have just resorted to your provided OC EFI and chilled in life. XD
But didn't just because i want to learn, it facinates me how things work specially with OC.
Thanks

@chilledHamza
Finally i was able to make my own SSDT-BATT.aml today.
Thank you so much for the help.

Totally agree, having a better understanding of how Hackintosh work is a lot better. it's very useful for updates or major releases that mostly break things and one might even end up with system that won't even boot after update.

Good to hear you got it patched properly.
Happy to help.

Hi I still can't get opencore to boot in ny hp 15-AC-126tx
It boots using your clover on 10.15.5
Really can't figure out what is wrong
Any help would be appreciated

Attach Problem reporting files, and what's the current situation? Kernel Panic or won't boot at all?

this is the log file from my open core boot
I get stuck at the apple logo with the boot % at half but no cursor appears
no kernel panic or messages appear on screen
so it docent boot at all

boot in verbose mode and attach screenshot where it gets stuck.

*Edit: seems like you are using all the files as is, config.plist doesn't contain proper SMBIOS info.

Hi,
I am trying to get Catalina on a very similar laptop (HP Pavilion 15-ab219tx)

Hardware:

  • CPU : Intel Core i5 5th Gen - 5200U (Broadwell)
  • iGPU : Intel HD Graphics 5500
  • dGPU : NVIDIA GeForce 940M [Maxwell Arch] (this is the component that i'm most confused about)
  • RAM : 10 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (8 GB Samsung Stick & 2 GB Micron Stick)
  • Laptop Model : HP Pavilion 15 AB219TX (MoBo : HP 8096)
  • Audio Codec : Realtek ALC 290 HDA
  • Ethernet Card : Realtek RTL 8139 / 810x Fast Ethernet Adapter
  • Wifi/BT Card : Realtek RTL 8723 BE (WLAN 802.11n) (I know this probably won't be supported; willing to use with Ethernet or USB Tethering)
  • Storage Setup :
  1. Samsung 860 Evo 250 GB 2.5" SATA SSD (contains Windows 10)
  2. HGST 1 TB 2.5" HDD (mostly Storage)
  3. Seagate 320 GB 2.5" HDD (mostly unused; plan to use this for testing)

So out of these I don't care about WiFi as long as ethernet works fine; willing to just disable WiFi and the dGPU.

I am trying to use OpenCore 0.5.9.

Mostly I am facing issues with Gathering the kexts and the ACPI & DSDT patching.

For now I'm checking the kexts. To be specific I have gathered the kexts but I think I have more kexts than I need. Also, is having a few more kexts than needed going to cause an issue?

Let me know if you can help with this since I think this guide is Clover based.

Thanks.

dGPU : NVIDIA GeForce 940M [Maxwell Arch] (this is the component that i'm most confused about)
Nothing to worry about, I have same dGPU. Inject disable-external-gpu property in Devices -> Properties section (IGPU) and WhateverGreen will disable it under macOS, no need to patch ACPI files.

You can try USB Wi-Fi adapter (those are cheap), and even swap it with Intel Wi-Fi module most of recent ones are supported with itlwm. Ethernet works for most part, but it isn't great. I had issue including delays while removing and reconnecting Ethernet cable, It takes some time to obtain IP Address through DHCP. while it works fine if you have it plugged in at boot time (or after boot) and you don't remove the cable or turn the modem/router off.
I am trying to use OpenCore 0.5.9.
My OpenCore 0.5.9 archive is attached in post #30.

You don't need VoodooI2C/VoodooI2CHID, I don't know why everybody think that they need VoodooI2C.
Try VoodooRMI instead, it supports 4-Fingers and gestures are better than VoodooPS2Controller, I have tested it myself and it works fine. VoodooSMBus is missing Device id so you have to manually add it to info.plist to load it.
i'm not sure about NoTouchID. You need RealtekRTL8100.kext (not RealtekRTL8111.kext). Other kexts seems fine, just make sure you are using latest version available.
Let me know if you can help with this since I think this guide is Clover based.
I do plan to update it, but little busy now a days. My OpenCore archive should work with everything, it's missing VoodooRMI though.

*Edit: How do you have 3 storage devices installed at same time?
