[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

hello someone might still have the original frames for the designer 390 I unfortunately do not have them anymore and I can not find them in the network anymore I am very happy about the help thank you can I take this original firmware for the designer 390? GIGABYTE_GC_TITAN_RIDGE_TR_HR_4C_C1_rev43_W_TI_1_38_s_I don't find another
the last time you asked, caseysj provided a link to the original designare thunderbolt firmware. go back a few pages and you will find it.

Totally agree regarding IQSV. But not the dGPU usage and Adobe part. Which version of Premier Pro r u using?

This update is for those interested in video editing performance. I spent some time trying the new Premiere Pro 14.2 which now utilizes full hardware encoding. In Windows, the export time is supposed to be 3-4x faster vs using software encoding. I was excited to see this improvement on the Mac side as well, but the actual results is only about 10% faster using Radeon VII. I am not sure if Adobe is still optimizing the Mac performance, but, at this time, it still cannot fully utilize the graphics card for encoding performance you will see in FCPX or Resolve. One improvement I see is scrubbing in timeline performance. So my initial assessment still stands. If you want the benefits of encoding/export in H264/265, stick with iMac19,1, enable iGPU for QuickSync for FCP or Resolve. It may take a while for Adobe to optimize the performance on the Mac side for now.

if you're running Mojave today, how much longer do you intend to remain on Mojave?

Hopefully it will be the last version of OSX I'll be running well into the future to open old projects as I move to over to Windows as my primary OS. After 30 years, the Apple premium (in $ for HW or in time hackintoshing) is no longer worth it to me now that 90% of the SW I use runs exactly the same (if not better) on 'doze.

I don’t blame you. It’s good to have choices. Because none of those choices is perfect (“is perfect” is grammatically correct), we can choose the one that works best.

Tomorrow we will meet the successor to macOS Catalina. It won't be available until the fall (autumn), but it will leave Mojave further behind. Many Mojave users are forced to stay there because of 32-bit plug-ins needed for professional work.

Is there any indication that developers of 32-bit plug-ins and 32-bit applications are migrating to 64-bit? In other words, if you're running Mojave today, how much longer do you intend to remain on Mojave?

I'd be running Catalina already except for Ableton visually lagging when opening groups on Catalina. Don't know why it does it, but every time I open a project (doesn't matter how large it is), when I open a group, the display lags up for a good 3 seconds or so. Issue happens even if I let the project load for say 10+ minutes and then try to open a group so, not really sure what's causing it. Same setup, plugins, etc on Mojave doesn't exhibit this issue, so I don't know when I'll update. It's not a huge deal, but i find it to be annoying enough to keep me from switching.

Coming from High Sierra just a few months ago, I remember Mojave had its fair share of growing pains for professional work for quite a while too. I tried it out when it was first released, and had a rough time. Aside from the USB issue, 10.14.6 has turned out to be relatively decent now. I hope Catalina will get there too, in time, but otherwise, I'll be fine sticking on Mojave for a long while too. I'd rather have a dependable and stable system than a bleeding edge one.

... That way you will cut significant time during export.

Thank you for your long and detailed reply, but this is not in accordance with my findings. I did a simple test, I compared a DR project (with H264, HEVC, and even DNG timelapses) with iMacPro without iGPU and iMac19,1 with iGPU. The export time on iMacPro1,1 was ~18 minutes, on iMac19,1 it was ~24 minutes. Furthermore, DR shows you the export fps, on iMP I got ~55 fps, on iM19,1 I got 30-40. Maybe this is because I didn't put the iGPU in headless mode correctly (I just left my monitor connected to the VEGA). But this is some real life experience that might be worth sharing. I'm up for more testing to further sort this out, because DR performance is the main objective for my build.

If your IGPU is not set as headless, your encoding will turn to CPU. Do me a favor and download this ProRes 422 file https://downloads.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicpocketcinemacamera/originals/Nature.zip and export it to H.264 using your iMacPro SMBIOS with IGPU disabled. I have a similar spec machine (9900K, VII) and will do one using headless iGPU. This should give us a good comparison between the two. Do one without pre-rendering (background render off), then do one with bg render on and wait till it finishes. This will give us the pure encoding speed.

I made a new project, 4K60, on DR 16.2.3, exporting only the .mov to MP4 H264, using 'use hardware acceleration if available', with 'automatic' quality. It took 35 seconds. I'm on 64GB RAM, iMacPro1,1, iGPU disabled in BIOS.

Really interested to see if there's any difference, @verendus!

@hylkepylke Do you have the Frontier Edition? I have the gold FE edition which I snagged on eBay at good price else I may have opted for something else. I have also toyed with the headless option and wondered which is best to do iMac19 ,1 vs iMacPro1,1?
