I recently bought a Radeon video card as my old Geforce is not supported since Mojave. I was then ready to switch from High Sierra to Catalina and had the objective to use a Fusion Drive in the process, as with HS my HD was mostly unused and my SSD nearly full.

Hardware

- Motherboard: Gigabyte AORUS - GA-Z270X-Gaming K5 (I updated it to the latest BIOS available, F9c)
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 2 x 8 Go 3000 MHz CAS 15
- CPU: Intel Core i5 7400
- SSD: Crucial MX300 M.2 2280 - 275 Gb
- HD: Seagate BarraCuda - 1 To - 64 Mo
- GPU: Gigabyte GV-RX580AORUS-8GD
- Headset: SteelSeries Arctis 7

For sound I don't use MB soundcard, for sound on my screen speakers I use sound from HDMI and my headset has a dedicated USB soundcard. So I deactivated sound in MB BIOS (but I think sound kext is VoodooHDA for this MB).

Steps

1 - Create a bootable USB installer for Catalina with Clover installed on it

See How to Create a macOS Catalina Public Beta Installation USB, for a starting point.

I had to:
  • Add specific kexts for my hardware (ethernet atheros e2200).
  • Replace ApfsDriverLoader.efi with apfs.efi from a working Catalina installation (my MBPro)
  • Activate USB ports limit patches for XHCI
See EFI.zip attachment for my working configuration.

2 - Restart computer and boot from created USB key
After a bit of waiting you should see the following screen
boot screen.jpg

Here I wanted to create a Fusion drive for Catalina installation, so I used TNCS-0045 - Do-It-Yourself APFS Fusion Drive guide, once the fusion drive is created you can go on with a normal Catalina installation on your diy Fusion drive.

Important: every time installation process needs to reboot you have to boot from USB install key and choose your fusion drive in Clover boot menu.

3 - Plug in your Time Machine drive when asked (optionnal)

4 - Copy EFI Folder on your SSD EFI partition
If you don't mind to use a USB key to boot up Catalina you're done ;).
Use Clover Configurator (or any other appropriate tool) to mount your SSD EFI partition et copy EFI folder on it.

Thank you very much! Your EFI works fine also with gigabyte z270 gaming k3 with rx 560 gpu

Thanks for this guide, I have the same mb with Asus rx580 GPU, did you get the full hardware acceleration working for this GPU?
I have sapphire rx 580 on another hackintosh, working out of box with acceleration.

ok thanks, I will give this a go over the weekend and update you how I got on... will use the provided efi folder to get me started. I am in to video editing you see so needed to make sure if this particular GPUs is okay as it caused a lot of problems with Mojave for hardware acceleration and dual monitor etc. Thanks

I have used new multibeast and unibeast and it was ok

Works for GA z270xp-sli
mind your clover efi versions. this lists 5097, i was on 5119 and it didn't boot. either install 5097 efi bootloader, then copy files, or keep your current bootload and only replace config.plist, kexts & drivers. make sure to remove any custom dsdt or ssdt files - this also kp'd my startup.

thank you! this is a great and very minimal clover setup and it's working great!
