Hey there, the frequency issue have on my mind ever since you mentioned it. I just logged it with new IPG and it seems my freq goes up and down almost all the time too. I haven't tried measuring it with the older IPG though. Could you just check your config if it has those items or not under ACPI/SSDT/?

Thanks!

Hey there! I am back from my trip! Im going to work on my USB ports again in the next day or two.

Here is the screen shot for you: I found that if I adjusted the screen update resolution and the sampling resolution to match the settings of the old version, I get more realistic usage stats at idle, although it still never goes down to 800mhz.

Hmm. What about your config.plist file? Does it has the items below under ACPI/SSDT/?

@Archangeliques hey hey hey! I got my USB ports working! Thanks for your instructions, they were a big help!
Glad to hear that!

Cheers!

My bad! I forgot to mention that part. All three settings match that - all three are set to NO.

EDIT: have you had any issues with USB drives ejecting during sleep? I’m reading it’s an XMP problem, but I don’t have mine set over 2666 (mine is set to 1866mhz).

Since the real iMac15,1 came with 1600mhz RAM, should I turn off my XMP?

EDIT 2: fixed it by disabling my XMP and setting my RAM clock to 1600mhz. Works perfectly now! Now all that’s left is to generate a proper serial number. The Macserial tool only wants to give me serials for the i5 model, no idea how to force it to give me the right one... Basically I want a Mid-2014 15,1 serial, but macserial keeps generating a Mid-2015 one. Ugh!

Hmm, I don't have them in my config. I'll try adding them and see if jumping frequency calms down or not. Thanks!

Well, since my MOBO supports 1600MHz max, I haven't had any issues. Besides, I don't use sleep, so I actually have no idea.

EveryMac tells us
iMac "Core i5" 1.4 21.5-Inch (Mid-2014) 1.4 GHz Core i5 (I5-4260U)
iMac "Core i7" 4.0 27-Inch (5K, Late 2014) 4.0 GHz Core i7 (I7-4790K)

So you should go with Late 2014. However, as we talked this earlier, macOS is smart enough to detect correct CPU. Like, real iMac owners can upgrade their CPUs and macOS detects it correctly. So, what you should do, stick with what Macserial gives you. Up to date SMBIOS is better. So, go ahead and use one of the 15,1 serials it gives you. And remember to check it with everymac website to see if results a correct iMac as i mentioned before.

This lists my CPU as Late 2014 but it works with Mid 2015 serial without any issues.

Thanks against for all the help! Still wrapping up the last few things with my SMBIOS, but I’ve got it all set.

Don’t know if it’ll help you in the future, but after doing some extensive research on serial numbers from 15,1 Macs, I found the last four characters is what controls which exact model you have.

FY10 = Mid 2015 i5
FY11 = Late 2014 i5
FY14 = Late 2014 i7

FY10 is what the generators seem to use by default, but changing the last four doesn’t seem to affect the validity of the serial, so I’ll be changing my last four to FY14.

Anyway, I think that concludes everything for now! Thanks again!

Woow, been a while since our last posts. Glad you made progress on your hack. Np.

I know the trick but it might cause issues with iMessage, App Store and such. So, use whatever Macserial gives you. Altering the serial may cause your AppleID banned/disabled/locked from logging in to Apple and lifting the ban is not easy. You need to call Apple, make up a lie without giving your serial and asking kindly lifting the ban...

No problem!

Aw man... that makes sense at least, I’ll stick with what the generator gives me then. Thanks for the heads up!

Cheers! Have a great weekend :)

Hi, @stiligFox, I have the exact same motherboard and CPU/GPU like yours, would you mind share your EFI to help me build my mac installation? It will definitely save a lot of my time.
