Asus X299 - Catalina Support

Exactly, the editors are all using i7 iMacs w/ external GPUs, as editing in 1/8th resolution isn't problematic. We also shoot in codecs that don't require proxies, etc - so the editing is not the problem - it's having people sitting there waiting on something to export that's the problem - So I'm happy to take a flier on a few hackintoshes that we can have sitting there churning.

I **suspect** those will be running windows by EOY :-D as they'd be the only windows machines in the office and if we run into major issues, I'd much make the CTO learn to support two windows machines than to have an entire office w/ them.

I also... kinda like it. Until I don't... then I really don't like it. We'll see where that line falls in 2020.

Good luck to you, and us :)

Yessir! Thanks again for your thoughts and direction. FWIW, I picked up two Radeon VII on Black friday for $320 a piece - I can't find them for less than $450 now, but it seems that the VII price will drop.

The 5770 XT is certainly an interesting proposition since its H.264/5 rendering is significant.

Curious if anyone has Catalina working with a cascade lake x cpu yet? I know some users have had issues with the newer motherboards.

Not yet. The new motherboard suck hard. Couldn't get any of the CLX refresh board to work. I just ordered an "old" Rampage VI Omega because I am tired and those four additional lanes are not worth the pain.

Has anyone been able to fix the small apple logo to big apple logo issue during boot in Catalina and OC?

In Mojave, this was never a problem, the apple logo was always consistent from small to small to login screen.

These settings are set to ForceGraphics and ForceText with no avail.

I have a full hd 1080p gaming screen in addition to my main LG 5K2K screen

When my LG 5K2K screen was connected as a main screen I couldn't solve the logo problem ... And even when the computer turned on my hard Drive arrangement was messy and had to be reordered every time

When I connected the full hd screen as the main screen, the logo remained the same size and there is no problem with the hard drive arrangement

Weird. I have dual 38" Ultrawides but they are 3840x1600 each and not full 4k.

Oh well not a big deal I guess?

This is basically what happens, see below.

In my opinion, best to look upon any boot-up glitches of this type with nothing but pride in your accomplishment ;)

Having installed on a lot of platforms and different GPUs now, it's really quite fun seeing the variety and what they all look like! Sometimes with sleep / wake it happens too.

Well, I usually use other machines (mostly Macs, but sometimes Win10 machines) to do my production work, but I did cut a documentary on my hack, and it went quite well. The Documentary also did quite well. I didn't have any issues and we got it done. So, it can be done. But I don't think I've ever seen a hackintosh in any of the studios I've been in, and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

But, you're right about support. Support for the hackintoshes in a company? That would be a dealbreaker for almost all organizations.

As it relates to the Mac Pro, the only way I can see getting one is if I get the barebone unit (with a good processor) and upgrade the memory, disk, and graphics card myself, over time. Some vendors have already released add-ons for it, and that includes some RAID (Promise and some other vendors), Memory and some other things that could save a bit of money. The Graphics Card Duo would be nice to have, but it's very expensive.
