[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Some things to check in no particular order:
  • Is this card installed in bottom short slot?
  • In System Preferences --> Energy Saver, is Wake for Network Access turned off?
  • Are these tiny MHF4 headers connected to the PCIe card?
    View attachment 439801
  • Are the external antennas connected?
  • Have you tried shutting down the system and flipping power switch on PSU to OFF for 10 seconds, then rebooting?
Thanks, @CaseySJ, my bad. I am into Hackintosh the whole night and was too tired to notice the antennas being not connected after the physical reinstall. Should work now...

Thanks. I just did another USB Installer with 10.15.2, and I tried it again with my second SSD. I will tell you in a few minutes if its working.

Please do. I don’t know what happened to my first install. Hopefully, if it’s all working, I'll have better success with 10.15.2 with my GPU.

I didn’t forget CCC asap to many have learned the hard wa.y:!:

Updated with no issues to 10.15.2 from the sys preferences!

@CaseySJ let me know as soon as you find out something about the NZXT Smart v2, I am getting crazy with these fans at max speed :S

Upgraded to 10.5.2
No problems.

has anyone been able to fix the 4k clover boot start resolution without going the route of using csmVideoDxe?
On my 4K monitor the Clover Boot Screen appears small, but still eminently readable. It looks quite nice -- I use the Clover default "embedded" theme without specifying any resolution in the GUI section of Clover Configurator.

Are you trying to make the text and icons appear larger on a 4K monitor?

@WhosMac, @CaseySJ

I finished the install and reproduced the initial 10.15.1 result now with 10.15.2. So a fresh Catalina install with an already installed 5700XT is possible with both versions and reproducable. No need to leave the GPU out and install with iGPU.

Steps (in short):
1. Create an USB Install-Disk with Catalina
2. Use Clover 5100 with the customized settings accordingly to the mini-Guide
3. Copy the Files from Catalina Fresh Install Folder supplied with the mini Guide to the EFI Folder of the Install Disk
4. Copy
Config-AMD-GPU.plist to the EFI Folder of the install disk and rename it to config.plist (set -v before if you want to follow the debugging)
5. In BIOS set the Installer Disk at the top of the boot sequence (DEL -> F2 -> Easy Mode -> Boot Sequence) This was the game changer for me. I did not do that before, since I always got the clover screen anyways and could choose the installer disk. Nevertheless not doing so so reproducably resulted in hanging/freezing/black screen and not launching the OS installer.
6. Boot from the Installer disk and follow the debugging. When the "services exited with abnormal code: 1" is stated and it seems to hang. Wait for a minute, the screen will go black and after 1-2 min the installer will launch.

I second this! Works with 10.15.2 without a problem with my sapphire 5700XT just like it did before the graphics card upgrade from the 580. Incidentally, hold down the F12 key to access the boot manager if you don't want to change the BIOS to boot from the desired install drive. With the Config-AMD-GPU config and the fresh install files, the 10.15.2 Catalina install disks boots right up after a small screen glitch you see for just a couple of seconds.

Unfortunately my Bluetooth doesnt work properly on Catalina with the config from the Mini Guide. The Antennas were the one thing but there is no Air Drop or connecting to a device possible. Fenvi 1200M Card, worked oob so far.
