pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

Would you foresee any issues with dropping a 5700 XT into this build?

I've seen some users have issues with black screen on boot (usually fixed with "agdpmod=pikera" boot flag").
Some users report that IGPU must be enabled for it to work right...

So, there are still some issues with the drivers but I think that they will be improved with upcoming macOS updates. Apple has already started using Navi cards in Macs so drivers should continue to improve.

I don't anticipate doing this tomorrow, but the warnings are good to know. As you didn't mention any hardware issues, I'll assume that won't present a problem. Thanks!

Yes. Hardware-wise, everything should be good. We just have to wait for drivers to mature a little bit more and I expect the 5700 XT to be one of the best GPU options.

Hi Pastry,

I have the same build as your original 8700K. I currently run Sierra but need to upgrade to High Sierra, can I "upgrade" or do I need to do a clean install?

Cheers
Dave

No, you don't need to do a clean install.

  1. Back up everything.
  2. Open your current config.plist.
  3. Copy your Serial, Board Serial, and UUID.
  4. Replace your EFI folder with the latest one from post #1.
  5. Open the new config.plist.
  6. Set the system definition you are currently using.
  7. Paste your old Serial, Board Serial, and UUID in to the appropriate fields. Save.
  8. Start the update.

Hello! I'm working on a different/new hackintosh... sort of a Mac Mini clone. It has an ASRock H370M-ITX/ac motherboard with Intel i3-8100 CPU, and I'm using the UHD630 for video via HDMI cable. I'm using @pastrychef EFI and it seems to boot fine (booting in verbose mode and seeing lots of activity). However, the screen goes black and the monitor goes into a low power mode. The system is still running, presumably in the macOS setup screen, and will eventually go to sleep. What can I do to keep the video on? I've tried a different HDMI port and cable, but no good luck.

Hmm... You may need to patch the connectors...

Please try with the attached config.plist. Then, if you are able to get to desktop, use the following guide to patch your connectors.
