Asus X299 - Catalina Support

New supplemental release to fix the very buggy 10.15.0.......check macrumors.....I'm sure the Tonymac staff will publish on it pretty soon....I'm on the beta of 10.15.1, so I'm not terribly interested.....but others who are not beta testers should check it out....

Yes, after about ten days, regardless of the other points checked on MacRumors, I have some strange bugs on this build : the minor is more longer boot time, but some proven applications crash suddenly and every time I have to relaunch them, some settings are not accessible and without told you about numerous alerts on my iPhone about my Apple / iCloud account...
At first I did not updated my main system ASUS X299 ( only make a fresh install on a reserved SSD), because of the lost support of 32 bits apps - I can not accept that for example for driver on one of my printer - so for the moment I will stay on Mojave.
I hope this supplemental release will fix the bugs.

Hmm.....I'm not sure I understand what you wrote, but I think English may not be your first language? Is that correct?

But by all means, always do what's best for you and your system. I am not advocating anything here. Only you can be the owner of what happens on your system. Maybe that means staying on Mojave, and not moving on to Catalina. Mojave is a perfectly good and reliable OS.

I will say that this thread is about X299 - Catalina Support, and maybe that's not for you. Great, no problem. Bugs come with every OS, and if Catalina doesn't work for you, or you don't want to put up with the bugs, Mojave is a great choice.

Of course, this thread is about Catalina's support. It was just my comments, and it was on not in good English...

I will try to do my best now.

These bugs are not very important just a little annoying.

I will install and test the supplemental update to see if there is an improvement : Perhaps my humble feedback will be useful ;)

( I have three systems :
MacPro Build 1: i9-7940X, Asus Prime X299 Deluxe, 2x VEGA 56 : currently on Mojave my main system.
iMacPro Build 2: i7-7800X, EVGA X299 FTWK , Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 : updated on Catalina and used to post here now.
iMacPro Build 3: i5-7640X, ,GIGABYTE X299 UD4 RX560 :updated on Catalina
Roll back to Mojave is more complex for different reasons.)

Catalina is a pretty big upgrade compared to Mojave (which completely changed the way USB HID worked for example Wacom couldn't fix their drivers for 8 months).

Just like everything else in computing, it's best to not use it in a production environment until maybe .3 or .4? Otherwise it should be ok for regular use.

I personally tried it on a real MacBook Pro 8 core, and it was unusable for me. The whole Adobe suite was buggy, Wacom wasn't working right and many Finder bugs. Had to revert back to Mojave.

Current Hackintosh is stuck on Mojave for now (with a side SSD for Catalina for testing) which runs flawlessly.

The removal of 32bit app support (which some programs still hook into) and a read only system partition are the biggest changes and a ton of other stuff that impact compatibility and performance in Catalina. There's also a ton of additional security checks for apps that require Helpers.

So, absolutely, if you are in a production environment, Catalina is not the right choice. Not yet.

I have not had as many issues as others have, but I can say I did not stay on 10.15.0 very long. Overall, on 10.15.1 things seem pretty decent, and just as stable as Mojave. I do use Clover still as there are aspects of OpenCore that I think need some time (I don't care for the booter utility, at least not yet - I'm hoping for some improvements there before I decide to switch).

I did some exports from Premiere and DaVinci, and they seemed fine. But I would never use Catalina as my production system, not yet. 32 bit add-ons are the major issue for me with Catalina, and it's true that Adobe uses a lot of those. Not so much for Resolve or FCPX. Most mainline programs run just fine (with the exception of Media Composer and Pro Tools) - at least for me.

I actually quad boot between Catalina, Mojave, Windows 10 and Linux Mint, and in terms of booting customization and presentation, Clover, at least for now, for me, just can't be beat....

Supplemental update performed overnight automatically : my system wake up, the update was installed, rebooted and went into sleep mode: this morning, everything is fine. Nice job when I was in bed. :)

So, Beta 2 of 10.15.1 is out, and for me, and some other users, there's an issue with Whatevergreen. The solution is: don't use it, meaning delete it from you Clover or Opencore EFI (or just zip it up, and then it won't be used). My system works just fine without it, but can't say how that will affect others.....

This is just the nature of beta software.....there are glitches in the road sometimes....
