Same here, did a direct update without reading that I needed to update Clover. Now I cannot get into bootloader.

I had the exact same experience. 3 extra reboots at black screen with logo each time. But instead of rebooting my system would just shut down. I kept trying after reading that maybe this is the expected behavior and sure enough on the 4th reboot I'm logged into a fully functional Catalina system. It's a bit weird because this is not the experience I had on my native MBP. Suggestion for other users, if you're stuck on an apple logo just wait, if the system shuts down, turn it back on and try to boot again. Keep doing this at least 3-4 times before giving up.
