[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hey Casey,

Thanks for all your help, REALLY appreciated!

I acquired a new monitor (ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD) that's connected with a USB-C to DP cable directly into the monitor but still doesn't seem like my system is being powered by accelerated integrated graphics. Any ideas or suggestions?

I tried booting with the config file you updated and sent but it produced the same results (photo attached) even with this new monitor connecting from HDMI port directly.

My configuration is a little different from yours so maybe it has something to do with that? I'm sending my parts below:

Intel i7 9700K
Designare GIGABYTE Z390 DESIGNARE
32 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 3000 MHz DDR4 DRAM
2x XPG GAMMIX 512GB(boot and work drive)
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G+ power supply
NZXT H500 - Compact ATX Mid-Tower PC Gaming Case
Corsair H60 liquid cooler

ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD

I'm not against getting a discrete GPU but want to see how accelerated graphics work for my workflow before I make another investment.

I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

cheers,
andre
Andre,

Do you see the Mojave login screen when using either a direct HDMI-to-HDMI connection or a USB-C to DisplayPort connection? Or does the system just stop after that screenshot?

Feel free to post the following 2 things again (so we have the latest versions):
  • Screenshot of /Library/Extensions
  • Compressed CLOVER folder from EFI partition of Mojave SSD
    • Please remove serial numbers from config.plist --> SMBIOS

The log indicates that the system was entering Darkwake instead of full sleep. And Darkwake was interrupted by an HID event (human interface device), most likely a keyboard or mouse event.
  • Do you have Enable Power Nap turned on in Preferences --> Energy Saver? If so, try turning this off.
  • If this alone does not work, then temporarily turn off Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and use a direct-attached keyboard and mouse (hopefully you have one of each).
  • If this also does not work, then momentarily disable Plex Media Server (there are quite a few Plex Media Server entries in the log).'
I am only using MagicTrackpad 2 on blue tooth.
I’ll sub a USB mouse and shut down plex.

Thanks

The WiFi page is glaringly empty so something really is amiss.
  • Please note that the IOReg file appears to be corrupted.

  • Is this the Fenvi FV-T919 or some generic components? If this is an ABWB card, it most likely won't work. Please see this post. We've had a spotty track record with off-brand components recently, which is why the Fenvi FV-T919 and its lower-performance cousin the FV-HB1200 are really the only recommended cards.
However, I would also recommend performing a CMOS Reset according to the procedure in the Designare user's manual. This forces the firmware to fully re-scan the system for all PCIe, NVMe, SATA, and other devices in the system.
Hi @CaseySJ I appreciate you taking a look.
I messed up the file. Here is a good one.
The card I am using is not an FV-T919. I have one of those on order. I have verified that the card I'm using works in another hackintosh, so it is known to be good.

Again, I really appreciate any help you can offer.

When I read that the system had been left on all night, I assumed it put itself to sleep. But if sleep really is disabled, then the behavior you saw is suspicious. Perhaps try the same thing again to see if it's repeatable?

I forgot to mention that the issue was persistent over a soft restart followed by a shutdown. After shutting down i killed the mains power to the PSU for a minute before booting.

To fix the network problems i was having with the access point in my studio room i had to jostle the connector in a switch at the opposite end of the studio. Pretty sure that's what solved the hangs in the computer as well. Weird, eh??

I will try to replicate it when i can.

With the Framebuffer patch via Hackntool, or booting with the updated config file you sent, I never get to the login screen and it stays in that black screen indefinitely. I have to reboot from the USB stick to get back to the desktop using non-accelerated graphics. At that point I delete the config file that isn't fully optimized and paste the config file that let's me boot from main system drive.

Attaching things you asked about.

Thank you so much for chiming in

Thanks for the new file. Yes, there's no sign of the WiFi card here, although Bluetooth is up and running on HS13. Is the Broadcom module fully seated in the PCIe x1 adapter card?
  • It might be a good idea to remove and re-seat the Broadcom module.
  • It might also be a good idea to perform a CMOS Reset (please check the procedure in your motherboard user's manual). This will force the system to rescan all connected devices.

Please try the attached CLOVER folder:
  • Rename to "CLOVER"
  • Copy your serial numbers back into config.plist
This version assumes Clover 5xxx is being used (the old drivers64UEFI folder has been deleted).

Hi @CaseySJ I appreciate your help. I swapped WiFi/BT cards with a known good one. The card that I had in my Xtreme works in that other machine. The known good card from the other machine has the same symptom here -- it does not show up.
I reset the CMOS and re-configured all the BIOS settings. Still no luck.
Do you have any ideas of what else to check/try?

Note: both built-in network ports work fine.

More Info:
-As a test, I tried installing a PCIe/NVMe adapter card in the middle long slot. It works fine (I can access the NVMe drive installed on the card). Then I swapped the NVMe and WiFi/BT cards. The Wifi still does not show up (with the WiFi/BT card in the middle long slot). And the NVMe card in the bottom long slot works fine.

Is it possible that there is something in the "Z390-AORUS-EXTREME-SSDTS" files that might disable the Wifi card or something?
I'm using these files:
SSDT-DTPG.aml
SSDT-EC.aml
SSDT-UIAC-AORUS-EXTREME-Z390-V3.aml
SSDT-Z390-AORUS-EXTREME-TB3HP-V4.aml

Hi Casey,

Reporting back.

Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I no longer see the screen to boot into the OS from the initial Clover screen where I get to choose to boot into MacOS.

I now see these options.. When I click on "Start UEFI Shell 64" it brings me to another black screen ( attached as "unnamed-2")
