[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Thank you for your topic.
I used your ThunderboltSSDT on my laptop. But, unfortunately, I don't have the right Thunderbolt device to test. I only have one Gigabyte Gaming Box with RTX 2060,When the graphics card can't be started, this box will not react at all...

The Thunderbolt SSDT may need to be modified for your laptop. The information needed:
  • Delete current Thunderbolt SSDT and reboot system
  • After logging in, run IORegistryExplorer and select File --> Save As...
  • Upload the saved file
Because of the RTX 2060, are you running High Sierra 10.13.6?

They are based on this chart, where the bottom row in red is iMac Pro 1,1. Look at the last 3 columns:
  • FCPX H264
  • FCPX ProRes 422
  • QuickTime
This is not a definitive benchmark, but just one of several. These tests were done with Radeon VII (except row 1).

Yes, I also had Radeon VII with iMac Pro 1,1 SMBIOS an iGFX off and it works stable and fine. (Luxmark score is 51 000 now)
My question was about these WEG fixes:
  • Removing the following WhateverGreen parameters from Devices --> Properties:
    • device-id
    • AAPL,ig-platform-id
    [*]Keeping the WhateverGreen parameter: framebuffer-patch-enable
1. I don't have anything to remove in Devices --> Properties, because Properties tab is blank.
2. WhateverGreen parameter: framebuffer-patch-enable — what does it do?

Hello @cheliocentric,

Regarding the various issues:

1. I believe the Asus PCE-AC56 uses the Broadcom 94352 chipset so you'll need the following kexts:
  • AirportBrcmFixup.kext
  • BrcmPatchRAM2.kext
  • BrcmFirmwareData.kext
2. Because you have the somewhat finicky "Nitro" version of the Sapphire RX 580, please try "BIOS --> CSM Support --> Enabled" to see if that makes any difference. You should also set Platform ID to 0x3E980003 by following this guide. Let me know if you need assistance.

3. The MOTU 16A is a Thunderbolt 2 device. Which TB3-to-TB2 adapter are you using? Is the MOTU visible in IORegistryExplorer? Feel free to post the IOReg file as follows:
  • Connect the MOTU 16A
  • Run IORegistryExplorer
  • Select File --> Save As...
  • Upload the file

ok

1. I copied the suggested kext's into the othe Folder --> no effect

2. It seems to work after i followed these steps! edit: after a few reboots the strange effects returned.
Sometimes its gone again after reboot.

3. im using the original Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter straight into the Mainboard. the files below:

i also attached a screenshot of my EFI folder

We strongly recommend the Fenvi FV-T919 because it is just plug-and-play. Please copy the 3 kexts to /Library/Extensions and run Kext Utility to rebuild kernel cache. Then reboot and try again.

For further troubleshooting on your card, please see this guide.

The Nito+ is discouraged, but the Sapphire Pulse is recommended.

IOReg file indicates that MOTU (Mark of the Unicorn) is attached to DSB1, but of course no drivers are loaded. The device itself is presenting itself to the system (Vendor ID = 0x137A).

Have you installed the accompanying drivers and updated the firmware as described here?

The Samsung X5 disk speed performance is phenomenal for an externally connected Thunderbolt device! Over 2800MB/s read!

iMacPro 1,1 actually gets you faster rendering speed in A/V apps such as Final Cut Pro X. If you're not a FCPX user then switching to iMac19,1 may be okay. But I would only switch if you find that something is broken...

Thank you.

Yes, X5 is super. fast. Good thing about certain Thunderbolt external SSDs, is that they can use the NVMe protocol, and utilise the power of PCI lane the ThunderBolt got, it can give a good speed.

Thank you for telling me about the SMBIOS. Very informative. :)

Hi CaseySJ,

Do you recommend any good ThunderBolt 3 docks?
There are several really good choices, but each has a different complement of ports. The OWC 14-port dock that I use is excellent for my needs. It has superb build quality and matches almost exactly the color scheme of my Phanteks anthracite gray case. It does not have 10Gbit Ethernet, but more common 1Gbit Ethernet. OWC periodically discounts this to about USD$230.

Latest Akitio dock features 10Gbit Ethernet if that’s important. Some docks even provide legacy ports such as eSATA. And others have vertical form factors such as the Plugable.

So the choice of a dock is based foremost on its complement of ports. All of them are good solid choices.

Edit: Fixed typos and added product links.

I think spell check might have changed your spelling, I think you might be referring to the Akitio Docks.

Now, just one unrelated but still pressing question..
Received a brand new 970 EVO Plus M.2 drive today. Installed it into M2M (top M.2 slot), installed Windows, updated 970 EVO Plus firmware to latest. Worked fine.

Probably not the solution to the current issues you are reporting, but the EVO Plus is NOT compatible with macOS. Even having it installed is a liability as even if it is just a windows system drive the OS will try to access the drive for this and that, as will some apps, and the system will not be able to read from the drive. This can cause programs or Finder to hang/ beach ball- it will also just randomnly cause kernel panics via apples NVME driver. You should remove and replace this drive with one that works with apples NVME driver. This drive should not be used on any system that will sometimes also run macOS.
