Please note:

This is not an installation guide, it's just about some tips regarding Mojave (and supposedly High Sierra) installation on Z77 mobos!

If you need to install from scratch, please use Tony's guide here.
I'm not sure I'm the first to uprise the argument. Anyway, I just wanted to share some little advices for the combination of Z77 motherboard based hacks + macOS 10.14.X Mojave.
This has been tested on two machines:
  1. Motherboard Gigabyte GA Z77X UD5H REV 1.0
    CPU Intel I7 3770K
    GPU Intel HD4000 + AMD Sapphire RX 580 8GB Nitro+
SSD sata III (no M.2. NVME)
    WiFi TP-LINK TL-WDN4800
  2. Motherboard Gigabyte GA Z77 DS3H
    CPU Intel I7 3770K
GPU Intel HD 4000 + AMD MSI RX580 8GB Armor
SSD sata III (no M.2. NVME)
    WiFi TP-LINK TL-WDN4800
The following results are posted from the machine number 2, with Gigabyte GA Z77 DS3H, I didn't test other motherboards or CPUs, but I'm confident the behaviour would be the same for all IVY Bridge CPUs and Z77 mobos.
Right this way, please. ;)

  1. Clover config.plist
    • Acpi\SSDT --- No PluginType flag. This will affect the CPU performance, keeping it at low frequencies.
      402369
    • Devices\Audio\Inject --- 3 (good old toleda and pikeRAlpha)
      402370
    • Kernel and Kext Patches\KextsToPatch --- AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext: you need to figure out which patch is correct for the integrated Intel HD 4000 layout of your motherboard, once again, thanks to toleda and pikeRAlpha
    • Kernel and Kext Patches\KextsToPatch --- IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext: needed just to enable TRIM on sata SSDs
      402374
    • SMBIOS --- Product Model iMac13,2: that's the best match for 7 series mobos + Ivy Bridge CPUs
      402377
  2. EFI\CLOVER\ACPI\patched --- SSDT-HDEF-3.aml + SSDT-HDMI-HD4000.aml (you can do it by injecting ig-platform-id and GFX0 to IGPU in config.plist, as well). This is necessary for HDMI and analogic Audio. See attachments
  3. EFI\CLOVER\kexts\Other --- some kext that we didn't need before:
    • AirPortAtheros40.kext (TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 wi-fi card is no longer natively supported in macOS Mojave)
    • AtherosL1cEthernetSierra.kext (for some Qualcomm Atheros LAN not supported by AtherosE2200Ethernet.kext, like AR8151) thanks to REvandenBerg

Attachments: the two EFI partitions.
Any kind of comment is welcome, guys! Let me know.

Cheers

Yes! thank you for the guide! I'm planning to update to Mojave from Sierra this week and swap out my 660ti to a Sapphire RX 580 Pulse 8GB card this weekend.

Thanks for this information. I tried to get my original Hac, a Z77X-UD5H, 3770k and internal graphics, running on High Sierra and it failed every time. So I gave up and moved to a new build. I think I'll give this a try on a spare HD and let you know what happens.

I was never able to update to High Sierra with my Z77X, but I was able to load Mojave, my advice is to select the SSD manually from clover each time the system reset. Good luck!

Any of you guys got this going on an Asrock z77 extreme 4? I'm getting lag spikes and my network was functioning at first but after a few reboots it now stays at "cable unplugged".

Config.plists would be helpful :)

Mike, I'm a little drunk here (well, that's @Azimuth1 fault) over a red graceful Italian wine BUT: I wonder what OS you're on and what LAN controller you have. Maybe you can take a peek with DPCImanager?

@giacomoleopardo

Sorry just saw this now, Im on Mojave. Ill run DPCImanager tonight, but I reinstalled Mojave and networking came back and seems to be fine now. Im still getting alot of random lag spikes though... Did you have to do any DSDTs or SSDTs for your Z77 builds?
