Hi everyone.

I recently updated my Hackintosh to Mojave; it's older hardware, but always worked flawlessly (or just about). Unfortunately I found out after the update that my GTX660ti was not fully compatible, so I purchased a nice Sapphire RX 580.

However, it has a very odd glitch: every time I reboot, it will work perfectly all the way up to the Mac OS login screen. There it goes bananas and shows varying degrees - usually a lot - of static, coloured noise to be exact. To be clear, the BIOS, Clover, and boot sequence all display as expected. This only starts at the login screen and beyond. The stranger thing is that if I unplug, and re-plug the cable from the back of the card, it self-corrects and works flawlessly in Mac OS. It displays properly and it shows up correctly in hardware profiles. Then I reboot, and we go at it again... I just don't get it!

I've attached my Clover EFI if someone cares to help out; it's a mess, I know, but I have tried to boot from a fresh, vanilla config.plist file yet got the same result.

I've double checked the card and hardware under Windows and I'm satisfied neither the card, cables or monitor are to blame.

Any, and I mean ANY help would be great. I've followed every guide I could find, and I have like 20 tabs open with various tweaks and whatnot and still can't figure it out. I know I can live with it, but it's just soooooo annoying!

GA-Z77x-UP5-TH, i7 3770k, Sapphire RX 580 8 Gb.

Thanks in advance to any brave soul who wants to help me!

Your config.plist is corrupted. Please try the fixed version attached below. I've also added "framebuffer-patch-enable" so WhateverGreen can apply the specified Platform ID to the internal GPU as well.

You also have two copies of FakeSMC as follows:

It's standard practice to place all kexts into the "Other" folder, so simply delete the one from "10.14".

Not sure if these changes alone are the cause of your graphics glitch, but these two changes should be made anyway. Then let's see if the problem persists.

Thank you, I will try this ASAP!

I had tried with a completely fresh install (with the same result), but that config still had some differences with yours so I will try again. And for good measure I ordered another GPU, just in case it's on the fritz...

How powerful is your PSU?

750W... I never thought of that actually but I really don't know what wattage my entire setup draws. I'll try to figure it out.

EDIT: I checked but even with the most conservative estimates, I'm about 100W under usage so probably not an issue.

HDMI for now; I'm to use DP in the end, but my testing bench only has an HDMI/DVI monitor. Both had the same glitch.
Have you updated to the latest Whatevergreen and lilu kexts? My RX580 was glitching when I first started running the Mojave public betas and the problems cleared up when I updated these 2 kexts. I am also using DP, not HDMI.

I would think a 750W psu is more than enough according to his specs, could be something to do with the Mac model he is trying to install. The reason I am saying this, I have a Saphire Pulse RX580 albeit 4GB that runs great on windows but with iMac 18.3 Mojave when it gets to load the Desktop I get a white flash and just goes black and sits there. The funny thing is it loads Sierra just fine all the way. So I ordered a new card 8GB to install in my new build so fingers crossed for this one.

I have. I started from scratch with the latest kexts I found... DP may change something, but all the ports I tried behaved the same so I doubt it honestly.

I've wondered that as well, but I'm very weary of changing my SMBIOS info since it's a migration...
