Apple released 10.14.4 Developer Beta 3 [18E194d] today. It's not plug-and-play with AMD Radeon VII just yet. I decided to try an older trick when RX 480 first released, borrowing the personality of a supported card. In this case RX Vega10 was the one to use and it worked. The Radeon VII can now function like a natively supported eGPU in macOS 10.14.4 beta. This same trick should allow it to work inside a Mac Pro tower.

Installation steps:
I'm pairing the Radeon VII with the original Razer Core which has the unsupported TI82 USB-C controller. First order of business was to run @mac_editor's Purge-Wrangler to whitelist this TI82 block. Once this is done the Thunderbolt 3 connection was working. Next step was to add the Radeon VII's PCI ID into the appropriate kext to allow the drivers to load. AMDXRadeon5000.kext was the one to inject 0x66AF1002. Run permission repair then restart and it should work.

That's interesting that it's not working in 10.14.4 Beta 6. All of the other websites suggest that it should be working in 10.14.4. They even show the Radeon 7 showing up in the device ID of 10.14.4.

nothing new under the sun ... you courage yourself ... all posts are old since the beginning of February ... as mentioned above in beta 6 is not compatibility, and some are thinking about version 14.5 already ... I have the impression that the discussion is the same as about nvidia ...

What VBIOS are you two using?

Straight-out-of-the-box Power Color Radeon VII.

All I did was install the 10.14.6 beta, turn on onboard video and it worked. It is the only graphics card in my box.

It froze up on my twice (mouse pointer would move but no input from keyboard or mouse) but it was "working" for about 90% of the time.

It seems to be very close. I don't know what corint1 is going on and on about.

Yes, it has worked since Feb 7th but you still need to edit the info.plist of the AMDRadeon5000kext. 14.4 beta 6 still doesn’t have the ID in the 5000kext. It’s not completely OOB yet.

The Radeon 7 actually has metal in Mojave, Nvidia only has Kepler support. That is a big difference between Maxwell, Pascal, RTX cards.

We went through this with the RX 480 but we had to add the ID to 2 Kexts. Radeon 7 only needs one edit. The W7100, W9100 are not part of Apple hardware builds but they have support. Apple uses AMD drivers for many cards that use EGPU boxes. There is no reason to believe they will exclude it. AMD rushed the card out and the Windows drivers get updates every other week. Apple and AMD probably wants good drivers before they add the ID.
Since we are in 10.14 beta 6 the 14.4 beta is a short distance away. It could pop next week!

if you do not understand why it does not matter

I'm not flaming you, my man. I just didn't understand why you kept posting the same message over and over like that guy in the scene in Superman who was wearing the "The end of the world is nigh!" sign.

Mojave will get Radeon VII drivers. That's just suicide by Apple not to. We're so close here. It's not like it requires a bunch of voodoo to get it to work. I legit just put the card in my box and turned on internal graphics card. That's all. No special magic. That tells me we're close.

Also, Radeon VII is new. AMD seems to be dragging ass on this. It doesn't seem to be an Apple problem. It seems to be an AMD problem. AMD's drivers were late getting to market for Radeon VII. They seem to be buggy. I kept getting errors and game crashes from my AMD drivers last night in Windows 10.

So if the drivers for AMD's flag-ship reference cards are half-baked on Windows, how can I blame Apple for not having fully-working Radeon VII drivers in a beta of macOS?

It's not doom and gloom and the end of the world is not nigh. ;)

We're close and I'm extremely encouraged.

This.

We're so close. I'm extremely encouraged. We'll have full Radeon VII support very soon.
