It's most likely not going to end up in the "Pro" line of Apple desktops. Navi is a Polaris replacement and for the iMac.

But who knows, maybe the "2019 Mac Pro" will have both Navi and Radeon VII support.

Radeon VII is definitely AMDs most powerful card in 2019, they are killing time for their next gen 2020 card. Radeon VII is basically a stripped down Instinct card they have for servers/workstations.

People have to realize that HBM2 prices have gone down and GDDR6/HBM2 are not too far apart.

The only reason AMD is using HBM2 on Vega is because the Vega architecture is bandwidth starved, hence why they went down to 7nm and increased memory bandwidth by double. One of their reps even said if they go down to 8GB on the Radeon VII it's not going to make a much price difference.

I think AMD is just inefficient when it comes to GPU building compared to NVIDIA. Even if they go down to 5nm and double to 32GB HBM2 RAM, it will still be a hot card with boosted speeds, probably beat out the 2080Ti, but will it be worth it for them?

Vega FE has been working perfect for me for about a year. I just use WhateverGreen+Lilu (on dual 38" LG Ultrawide displays via DisplayPort) and no other SSDT or kext to support it.

Actually I had more problems with motherboards and coolers than any other parts in this build.

Currently it is on a waterblock with an EKWB 280mm radiator (push/pull config) on it's own loop, and it runs extremely cool with zero noise on full load (hot spot is about 56c, which is very good on such a hot card). Also "performance" mode is enabled (the switch toward the rear ports for the higher clock speed VBIOS).

I will say though that on stock blower style cooler, it runs extremely hot and gets loud.

It’s not needed unless you have multiple monitors. It enables all ports.

However it has other features like built in Shiki which helps with DRM content.

Success with LG 34WK95U-W via TB3 of GC-Titan Ridge on ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe



While connecting the LG34WK95U-W under macOS via one of the DP1.4 of my Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64 worked basically out of box, it took me several weeks to also properly connect the display via one of the TB3 ports of the GC-Titan Ridge on my ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe.

By connecting both GC-Titan Ridge mini-DP input connectors with the two DP1.4 ports of my Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64, macOS always implemented two LG HDR 5K (LG HDR 5K 1 and LG HDR 5K 1) monitors although just one was connected, a problem that was really annoying and that prevented a proper function of the LG34WK95U-W via TB3.

Today, after a break of several weeks, I connected by chance just one of the two GC-Titan Ridge mini-DP input connectors with one of the the two DP1.4 ports of my Sapphire Nitro+ Vega and voila... the LG34WK95U-W was suddenly properly implemented as a single monitor also via TB3 under macOS. By this of course just one out the two TB3 ports of the GC-Titan Ridge carries the DP1.4 signal but by this the LG34WK95U-W works absolutely flawless.

At first place, I was running the monitor via TB3 under native 5120 x 2160 pix resolution, although by this the text is tiny and hardly readable.






I then switched to a HiDPi resolution of 2560 x 1080 pix



which still allows native 5K screen resolution at 2560 x 1080 pix UI resolution.



However also with this UI resolution I did not feel very comfortable.

I therefore continued trying different HiDPi resolutions, and found an UI resolution of 3360x 1417 pix and effective resolution of 6720 x 2834 pix (interpolation)





as well as an UI resolution of 3840x 1620 pix and effective resolution of 6680 x 3240 pix (interpolation)





the most convenient choices for the size of the LG34WK95U-W.

Switching between all available resolutions works flawless.

Below the active scaled resolution profile in SwitchResX.



Also display HotPlug via TB3 is fully supported, always provided a proper implementation of SSDT-X299-TB3HP.aml in the EFI-Folder.

Remaining issue with GC-Titan Ridge on ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe: Black screen on wake from sleep. One needs to unplug/replug the power cable of the LG34WK95U-W, to make it work again via TB3 after wake form sleep. It would be interesting to know if the latter is a firmware issue of the LG34WK95U-W when connected via TB3 or if the monitor such properly works with the GC-Titan Ridge on the ASUS X299 Sage (10GB). If the latter is the case, the wake from sleep issue would be very likely ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe firmware related.

I'm using a similar build with the X299E-itx, 7820X and also a NCASE M1.

But i am using a Vega 56 as there aren't any NVidia Web-Drivers until this day for MacOS Mojave (10.14).
I saw a 1080ti in your profile and with this you won't be able to use 10.14 (at least now and it is not known when or if ever NVidia will release Drivers for Mojave).

Basically you would either need to stay on 10.13 or switch to Vega 56 or 64 if you want to use 10.14.
Some are using AMD RX580 cards but this is not recommended for this iMac Pro Hack build and might come with some drawbacks.

Can you please share the EFI folder you used? I have a vega64 and a Broadcom wireless card now.
Using the EFI folder included in this guide it won't boot.

In relationship to 10Gbit Ethernet, from what I understand, reading one has to run MacOS 10.13.3 to have the Asus XG-C100C firmware updated. Only then the card will work in subsequent MacOS versions using the proper patch.
Is there a budget 10Gbit card working OOB, or with the installation of a driver, that's also budget sensitive as the Asus card is?

I used a used Chelsio card from eBay. Lots of cheap options on there. You can check chelsios website for compatible models. Install the driver and you’re good to go.
