Try RAM first. That's easy.

Power supply is also a common cause of random shut downs.

I had enabled "Enable Power nap" and that was the reason for instability. I disabled it and its working okay. Thanks for the suggestions, PC.
 
Regarding the DSDT edit for sound. Is it impacted by graphics card i.e. if I create the DSDT for sound whilst I have HD4000 graphics, do I have to do anything if I update to a (supported e.g. GT710 or RX560) graphics card in the future?

I don't think you have to.
 
Has anybody got a 8300 CMT and upgraded/changed the CPU cooler? I was aiming to, but think (happy to be corrected) HP have used a non-standard cooler with rectangular mounting holes (~72mm x 104mm spacing) when standard would be square?
