Dear Members,

I just did a fresh HS 10.13.5 install on a freshly purchased MacBook9,1 (used), and as soon as I reached the desktop, there was an 'untitled' (with lowercase 'u'!) volume mounted on the desktop.

I double clicked it, and there was a 'setup' (again, with lowercase 's') folder inside.

I opened up Disk Utility, and the volume automatically unmounted itself, and could never trace it down.

Any idea what this could be? Did I just purchase a rootkitted MacBook?

Hope not...

Kind regards,
Mark

You have come to the wrong place as this is a site dedicated to installing Apple operating systems on non-Apple hardware.
Perhaps you will fare better on one of the (many) Apple support forums elsewhere.

Yes I know this, but I found that people here have much deeper level of knowledge. Since it's a software thing, it does not matter that much which hardware it is running on (AFAIK).

I'd appreciate any help really, I'm a bit worried.

Thank you!

Dear Members,

In the previous days I asked a specific question regarding a fresh install.
My thread was immediately moved to an infrequently (e.g. like never) visited subforum, because it contained a specific word.

The funny thing is, that my question actually has nothing to do with that word in it, so since I couldn't edit the original thread and move it back to the question's relevant subforum (HS Desktop Support), I made a second thread asking the same question without including that specific word.

Result: Thread gets deleted, because it's a duplicate.

Okay, I create a third thread with "[Duplicate on purpuse]" in the title and tell the same details as here above hoping that it makes sense and my question makes it. No luck, deleted again.

Please help me guys, I would really like to ask a question!

Thank you very much!

Mark

BTW, the moved question is here:

no need to cross post duplicates (also against the rules) thanks

Any idea how I could get people with relevant knowledge read my question?
I would really appreciate it, I always thought that this forum thing is all about sharing knowledge. You are effectively blocking ability of everybody on this forum to educate themselves on this matter. :(

Do you think it would be OK to remove the "Apple" and "MacBook" words from the original post and move it back to HS Desktop Support?

Or do I need to do a fresh install on another (non-Apple) device just to please you? Hope not :)

Do not get me wrong, I want to obey the forum rules, but the rules serve the purpose of a forum (effective knowledge sharing without polluting it) and you are intensively blocking that purpose IMO, so you are against the (non-written) rules as well.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry to hear you are having issues on your Apple computer

This site is dedicated on running macOS on non Apple machines

I am sure there are many forums floating around the internet that can help you with your Apple computer

Ahh I see your Apple hate. Please ease it, I love macOS, and while Apple's desktops are surely overpriced, I think Apple makes the best laptops in the world, so I'm really sorry, but I bought one.

I also have a lot of non Apple machines, so I'm def. not an "outsider" so to say.

I'd really appreciate it if your personal feelings would not be against macOS related knowledge.

If you absolutely hate this whole thing of me having non-hardware related issues on macOS but "secretly" owning genuine Apple hardware as well, then I'll happily do a fresh install on one of my hacks and repost the question. Please confirm that would be OK @feartech !

Have a nice day!

i have no hate towards apple machines at all, i own an iMac, its a lovely machine, i was expressing that if you have issues on your mac then you should be looking over at apple forums, that's all

if you build yourself a hackintosh and have the same issue on that hack, then feel free to post in the desktop support forums

although i am trying to get my head around the actual issue you are having, maybe some pictures would have helped?

I stated in the original post what the issue was, and I could not take any screenshots due to the attached volume automatically unmounting itself.

Here is the non hardware specific question with a possible(?) solution at the end:

"I just did a fresh HS 10.13.5 install, and as soon as I reached the desktop, there was an 'untitled' (with lowercase 'u'!) volume mounted on the desktop.

I double clicked it, and there was a 'setup' (again, with lowercase 's') folder inside.

I opened up Disk Utility, and the volume automatically unmounted itself, and could never trace it down.

Any idea what this could be? Is there a way to scan the install USB for mountable .dmg files?"

Thanks!
