Hello,
This is somehow off topic, but when will be guide for OS 10.13.1 High Sierra? I bought Lenovo Y580 1920x1080 and have a plans to install it.
Can I use software described here for this (installer and clover) but with flash card macOS 10.13 ?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much for your post. I will install then macOS 10.12.
Does anyone knows where I can download Sierra? I have at home normal iMac but with High Sierra.

Hi there,

Thanks for a great guide to walk me through this.

I'm a b it confused about this warning though:

Make a backup first because Windows must be reinstalled and things can go wrong!

On my Y580, I have just data on the regular 1TB HDD (1), windows sits on an 256 GB SSD in the mSATA slot (2) and I now installed a new blank 128GB SSD (3) onto an HDD caddy where the DVD drive was.

Here's what I'm thinking:
  1. Installing OSX onto the new SSD (3) should not mess with my windows SSD (2) => right?
  2. Also the partition setup (MBR vs. UEFI) of the windows SSD (2) should not matter => right?
  3. if either would, I would just take that windows SSD (2) out, and probably also that HDD (1) and then do the install
  4. preferably, though, I do want the OSX installer to see both so that esp. the new bootloader – which only modifies my new SSD – would provide two options: OSX and my windows SSD
  5. I was even hoping to shrink the OSX partition on the new SSD with now OSX on it in half in order to make room for linux MINT as well, which I was also hoping to later be able to add to / start via the bootloader
If (anyone of) you had some feedback, that would be gr8.

Thanks -tb

Asked differently, how crucial is the UEFI bit in all this? The thing is, I am struggling to convert my MBR formatted SSD to GUID. There appears to be mbr2gpt these days, but for me validation fails with:

Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>mbr2gpt /validate /allowFullOS
MBR2GPT: Attempting to validate disk 0
MBR2GPT: Retrieving layout of disk
MBR2GPT: Validating layout, disk sector size is: 512 bytes
Disk layout validation failed for disk 0

Far from ideal would be if I had to switch bios settings every time I want to switching booting OSX (UEFI) or windows (MBR).

Addendum

Gonna try and follow this guide via backup windows MBR legacy partition, reinstall win on UEFI, restore win partition to UEFI drive:

gdisk (in Linux) can be used to convert MBR to GPT.
Make sure you have a backup of important files in case you make a mistake...

For novices, it is best to partition in Disk Utility and install Windows after...

Hello,

I am attempting a fresh install of Sierra 10.12, following this guide exactly (at least i think I am). However, I seem to be not able to boot the installation - if i choose only -v boot option, as per guide, it only goes to empty black screen.

When -v -x is chosen, I get stuck, please see attachment.

I used the EFI\Clover folder provided in the guide:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/kgqmvse6uuebo3r/EFI.zip?dl=1
I deleted the unwanted config file and renamed "EFI 2" to "EFI", otherwise it wasn't recognized in boot menu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if i didn't present enough info - this is my first attempt.
