Looking to build this system but with a GTX 1080 FE. Question about SSD for the two OS. Would two 120gig m.2 SSD be decent for the operation and applications? I do video editing (Adobe FCPX, photoshop after effects) and then for pc I have oculus.

What do you think about running two m.2 ssd drives? I am considering 960 evo at 250 gigs to run windows and osx. Then ssd and hdd for bigger files.

Thanks for sharing your build! I plan to start this weekend!

Hi

i have the same mobo and i will update my build tonite (i7 is coming today). Your 960 NVMe is in the M2Q_32G port or the M2Q_32A?

Thx

there is a difference, one shares it's bandwidth with one of the SATA ports and the other one with a PCI slot if I recall correctly. Read you motherboards manual, it's in there. Just use the one where you don't plan to use the other port from.

Probably would work, but I certainly am no expert on dual-boot machines. Maybe someone else can jump in here... especially as it relates to the # of lanes in use & if a 2nd m.2 might cause any problems or bottlenecks.

I **did** read the motherboard manual. The question was whether my 960PRO m.2 was in M2Q_32G port or the M2Q_32A. According to this chart, if using PCIe m.2 (which is what I have), there are no limitations. The only conflict is when using a SATA m.2, and then there is conflict with the SATA3_0 connection:

Hi

everything works but first no Wifi and can't stop the hackintosh. But it's ok now:I had to plug the combo Wifi/BT card in the last PCI slot. Wifi and turn off is ok.
For the sound i use AppleALC+Lilu and codecommander for sound after sleep.

Great score with geekbench: 29000. I can reach 30000 but it's unstable. My DDR4 is only 2400Mhz... i can OC it too 3000Mhz with no pb.

I don't use unibeast/multibeast. Only Clover and some kexts in EFI/CLOVER/Kexts/Other.
SMBIOS 18,3 (thanx MacBidouille a french hackintosh forum!)

Still have my long boot sequence (like on my Z170MXG5+NVMe).

Thanx a lot.

Inbox WiFi is known issue for a long time now - we always recommend 3rd party solutions that can be found in the Buyer's Guide. But good to hear your report of everything working now, including some slight overclocking.

Another rookie question...all 4 ram slots work in both OS correct? I am eyeing doing an 8x4 32gig ram set up. Just want to make sure before I buy (hopefully today)

Hi

my never-switch-off problem is back...

Power settings in Bios or bad config.plist ?

No USB is plugged, just the USB 2.0 from the mobo for the power of the combo Wifi/Bt card... I'll try to unplug it.

Any other ideas?

Thanx

EDIT: After my Bios Update "Wake on Lan" was Enable. Now disable and it works. Sorry

You must have missed the last 2 pics of my original post where it shows all 4 DIMM slots filled with pretty colored LED-enabled SDRAM...

Hi @BoomR, I have recently completed my built, but I have a couple of problems ...

The configuration is very similar to yours:
- Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Ultra Gaming
- i7 8700K
- Corsair Vengeance 32Gb (2x 16Gb) 3200 MHz
- SSD Samsung 850 evo 1Tb
- Gigabyte Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3
- PCI Express (PCI-E) BCM943602CS Wi-Fi Bluetooth Combo card
- Evga SuperNova 650W G3
- Arctic liquid Freezer 240

here are my bios settings:
  1. MIT > Advanced Frequency Settings > Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P) - choose Profile 1
  2. BIOS
    1. CSM Support - Enable
    2. Fast boot: Disable
    3. LAN PXE Boot Option ROM: Disable
  3. Peripherals
    1. Initial Display Output: IGFX
    2. Trusted Computing > Security Device Support: Disable
    3. Network Stack Configuration > Network Stack: Disable
    4. USB Configuration > Legacy USB Support: Auto
    5. USB Configuration > XHCI Hand-off - set to Enable
    6. Note: Once Thunderbolt3 AIC is connected, a new dynamic menu option for configuring the Alpine Ridge card appears below the USB DAC option (which lets you set options for USB charging on the appropriate ports).
  4. Chipset
    1. VT-D - Disabled
    2. Internal Graphics - Enable
    3. Wake on LAN Enable - Disable
Kext: FakeSMC, IntelGraphicsFixup and Lilu

Problem 1:
Without OC my Geekbench is a bit low: about 6000 in SC and 26000 in MC. Why not 29000 like you? It's not a small difference...
I enabled PluginType in Clover, but I also tried with Piker Alpha's ssdtPRGen, but there was no difference.

Problem 2: [Solved: patch the apfs.efi file]
During startup under the Aorus logo, error messages appear regarding APFS, what is it due to? Can it be solved?

Any ideas?
I attach my Config.plist if it can help.

Ps. I'm working on an SSDT to enable the hotswap of Thunderbolt devices, if I succeed I will post a guide!
