Hi!

I am new to hackintosh, and do not know a lot about computers.

I use Lightroom and Photoshop on a professional level as photographer.

I have ordered a 16 RAM. It is only possible to use RAM in one slut or else I get an error msg. Max for MO is 16 RAM, so I hope it will work in one slot only.

If you take a look at the specs, would you say I would benefit on upgrade on any part - or is all good?

Please list all of your hardware that you plan on using. In particular, the motherboard and CPU.

Just to clarify your question. You are asking whether you can install a single 16GB DIMM of ram on that H61 motherboard that has just two slots ? I don't think so. You could only install two 8GB ram modules for a maximum of 16 GB. Always check the motherboard manual to determine what it's maximum capacity is. If you need to troubleshoot why both of your ram slots do not work then post in Hardware Troubleshooting section of the Forum.

I ask - in generel - if the set up is ok to run Lightroom and Photoshop on a pro level - or there is one or more points that would greatly improve the performance in the workflow of the software.

Regarding RAM upgrade: I will soon know if 16 Ram in a single slot will work. The manual of the Mo suggested it would be ok, ei. 12+4 Ram instead of 8+8. But 16+0 RAM.. time will tell.

So I guess - with my little knowledge of computers - I am asking if the Motherboard and the CPU (and the graphic card?) are up to a decent level to run the software mentioned. Hope that clarifies. And thank you for your time!

Your motherboard only accepts DDR3 RAM, which has a maximum capacity of 8GB per stick. If you have purchased a 16GB RAM stick, that is most likely a DDR4 RAM stick, which is not compatible with your motherboard.

Thx for your input.

RAM specs:Samsung - DDR3 - 16 GB - DIMM 240-pin - 1600 MHz / PC3-12800 - CL11 - 1.35 V

We will see if it works when/if it arrives.

If you ignore the RAM for a second and look past it, what do you see with your tech experienced eyes?

There are 16GB DDR3 RAM sticks available for use on server motherboards, but those RAM sticks do not work with consumer motherboards like your own. If you are certain you have ordered a 16GB DDR3 RAM stick, then it is probable it is for server motherboard use.

What version of MacOS do you plan to use (or have installed) on your computer? And what is the exact model of the graphics card you are using?

this it what the MO manual says: see attached screenshot

and let's stop guessing about the RAM please ;) it will arrive today or tomorrow, then we will know for sure.

You guys were right about the RAM - it did not work.

I will open a trouble shoot on 2 slots RAM (since only one slot is working)

Regarding the specific graphic card name: not able to find it - even on the card.

OS system vs. running: Sierra 10.12.6
