They are still showing a December 2017 launch date so it looks to be on schedule. Can't imagine what the maxed out 18 core version will cost. 18 cores, 128 GB of DDR4 ram and a 4 TB NVME SSD... No one can call the iMac Pro under powered or wimpy, this is a serious Professional system. Maxed out it will likely cost around 12,999 USD. That's just a guess though. I could be way off on that.

12/14/17 Update I was actually quite close in my guess of the cost of the 18 core maxed out version. It comes in at $13,199 USD. So maybe taking out a second mortgage isn't a bad idea, that 24 Mo. special financing looks good too.




Apple has even kept the "old school" I/O in these cutting edge iMacs. A headphone jack and an SDXC card slot ?? No adapters needed. How great is that ? Even 4 type A USB 3.0 ports. I think they got tired of listening to all the griping about Macbooks and Macbook Pros.

Yes, it's live here in the UK too. All looks great, with a lot of impressive tech (although the RAM memory speed does seem a bit on the low side, really, although maybe being ECC helps?).

If Apple can keep everything cool inside that tight enclosure then they have to be applauded, and when it comes to pulling the rabbit out of the hat, they can usually do it

However for the huge prices that are going to be asked, I think I'd prefer a machine that is easily disassembled, like the old Pro's. I understand this new iMac Pro may just be a stop-gap until another generation Pro is ready, but all that money for a sealed iMac shell is a big turn-off for me personally. Though I'm sure many with deep pockets will still buy them.

Yes, you need to use it to make lots of money or else you'd just be going deep into debt for a high priced Mac that gives you some bragging rights for extremely high Geekbench scores.

Apple announced today a December 14th launch date. Only the 8 and 10 core versions will be available. The 14 core and 18 core versions should be available in early 2018. More time to save up that money to buy one.

The original 1998 iMac sold for around $1300 or about $2,000 today based on inflation rates. When you compare the specs from then to now it's pretty mind boggling how much more computing power you get with the iMac Pro 19 years later.



The original came with 32MB of ram and 2 MB of Vram. Thats Megabytes not Gigabytes. The iMac Pro comes with 32GB of ram standard and can go up to 128GB. Pretty awesome. It had a 233 MHz Power PC processor. So it wasn't even as powerful as a hand held calculator or 10 dollar cell phone is today.

its actually not impressive at all given what was expected with moore's law. We should be at a better technological place by now.
