I'll go through it again and make sure I'm not missing a step. I left it run over the weekend and she locked up. Now the MOBO won't complete POST. All lights are on solid on the motherboard so I may have another problem.

Sounds like a separate additional issue, these motherboards are starting to get old now..

I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade. My Newegg invoice says I ordered my original hackintosh gear back in 2010.
My order is placed and consists of :
  • Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI
  • Corsair Hydro Series H55 Quiet Edition Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Intel Boxed Core I5-6600 FC-LGA14C
  • Gigabyte Graphics Cards GV-N75TWF2OC-4GI (GTX 750 Ti Windforce 4GB)
  • Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2)

I'm reusing my Antech ATX case, PSU, BluRay RW, DVDRW, and 525G + 256G SSDs.

It's not the latest and greatest but it should be significantly faster than my already decently fast 7 year old system.

It's the wrong thread I'm sure, but any concerns?

Upgrade the PSU. Since Haswell CPUs came out the low idle power draw is below the minimum of a PSU from 2010 and it may shut down when it goes to sleep if you use the old one.
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151118 would be a good one

anyone know of a good USb 3 card for sierra? this MB doesn't have any USB3 support for sierra

Inatek model KT4004 - costs around USD$35-$45 and will get you 4 USB3.0 ports with native Mac support.

Hi folks, I need some advice. I have my Sierra build all working.

Installed the base system with Unibeast, then post install with Multibeast. Updated Clover to the latest version, Updated the OS with Sierra combo update to 10.12.6 and then patched audio with Toleda script.

My system got audio, powers off, sleeps and reboots fine.

Here's my issue... I'm not using a DSDT. When trying to use the pre-patched from the site I immediately loose audio because of the DSDT patches. I've extracted my own DSDT with Clover but I have no idea of what should I be patching since everything seems to be working.

Even though everything is working, I have occasional issues with sleeping, and the system also freezes every now and then. I'm running a Xeon X5650. My cores seem to be stable at 37 to 40C when idle, but my fan sometimes seems to go very loud too.

At this point, any recommendations of any tweaks I should be doing? I gave up on the USB 3 but what else should I be focusing on?

Thanks

If you do all of the patches indicated in d00d's excellent guide then you will have a DSDT to put in Clover/ACPI/Patched that will last. See www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/196771-ga-ex58-and-ga-x58a-dsdt-native-power-management-modifications/

Remove all DSDT patches in Clover after doing this - you will not need them anymore.

So... updated to High Sierra with minor issues, all solved now! Just make sure you avoid the APFS.
Im going to milk that board until if falls apart. :p

Hi and thanks so much to this thread for the help it gave me sorting out a Sierra Hack on my X58. I havent done any hackintoshing since Mavericks and learnt the little I know with snowleopard as im a regular mac user and systemcautious..

I got caught out after my first sierra install because clover which im new to did something weird to the bios as when i checked it out a password had appeared so i had to do cmos reset and then missed a tick from my well worn settings - this esata tickbox in bios meant that my attempts at clean installs didnt appear with a unibeast boot but as the drives appeared when I opened in mavericks I spent a day checking for tricks to restore the Mach_kernal which doesnt exist in sierra - so anybody checking this make sure the bios is correct if it wont boot beyond machkernel message.

The AppleRTC=true in clover sorted my machine not shutting down so thanks again......

Next move is the basics ive got voodoo for audio, the nvidia install for my 9800, ralink for my wifidongle,
but im unsure in cloverconfigurator how to activate ethernet - im used to multibeast install kext from a selection?
Also talk here of patching the "AppleTyMCEDriverkext" but I cant find it - for use when changing to 5.1 for a usb3 card im checking out?

I suspect Sierra is the last OS for this machine but with its advantages its great to keep it going.

mick
