18,3 SMBIOS

Yes I know, but it's way too difficult for me
It really isn't that difficult. If you don't do it, your USB ports won't function the way they're supposed to and that will/may affect the computer sleep function.

Had a perfectly working system using SMBIOS 14,2 with an i7 6700, Asus Z-170 A and 980Ti. Just swapped out the processor for an i7 7700k. I didn't change anything in Multibeast or Clover and the system appears to be working fine, but my CPU fan will speed up and slow down at odd times. Is this related to power management and, perhaps, the Sandy Bridge SSDT I have in the ACPI > Patched folder? I assumed I should change my SMBIOS to 18,3 and follow the Native CPU Power Management guide, but I'm getting a black screen after the Apple logo and the AGDPFix doesn't seem to reference 18,3. Any ideas?

Since you aren't using Sandy Bridge, you probably shouldn't have any Sandy Bridge SSDT in there.

Check for BIOS updates to your motherboard for better Kaby Lake support.

Try installing Lilu.kext and NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext to fix black screen.

Couple of issues w/18,3. Front headphone jack is no longer detected when plugging in headphones, its ignored. Under 17,1 audio automatically switches to head phones and mutes speakers. Sleep under 18,3 causes a reboot after 8 to 10 hours with dark wake enabled. Works okay w 17,1.

Thanks, Pastry. These two kexts helped. I can now boot via 18,3. I also removed the SSDT. Is it okay to leave that ACPI > Patched folder empty? The issue with the CPU fan is still present. I'm not too worried about the noise, necessarily. Just want to make sure I'm following the correct procedures. Here's what I see in Intel Power Gadget when idling for a bit and then playing back 4K footage in DaVinci Resolve.

An ssdt.aml file isn't required... But it should help with power management.

If you do decide to generate one, it's quite simple and here are the directions: Quick Guide to Generate a SSDT for CPU Power Management | tonymacx86.com

Alternatively, here are the "new school" directions for native power management: macOS Native CPU/IGPU Power Management | Page 6 | tonymacx86.com

The system fans are controlled by BIOS. That's why I suggested seeing if there is a newer BIOS for your motherboard that may offer better support for Kaby Lake.

Also, as per the forum rules, please update your profile so that your motherboard, CPU, and GPU info are shown under your forum avatar. This helps make it much easier for others to help you.

In my clover for some reason, there is no 18.3. (iMac) Although the clover version is the last. I'm not looking there?

Try using a recent version of Clover Configurator.
