I bought Snow Leopard many years ago when I first tried this. As for buying the next OS well its old and probably not worth buying. I would buy the latest OS if I had a machine here that it would work on. But this is just something I am trying to pass some time since I no longer work and to see if I like the mac OS enough to maybe buy some older used mac.

Once you buy Lion, you get all of the rest free. But you must buy Lion before you can download them.

Is it possible to get the app store working on Snow Leopard so i can try buy the next OS. I can find endless posts from people asking how to do it but so much reading doesn't have an answer. Guess there is an answer, just havn't come across it yet. I have also looked online in my local area to find someone selling an old mac but even something made in 2008 is just far to high in price. I can open the app store, buy I cant sign in.

Are you using Chimera or Clover as a boot loader?

I am not really sure how to tell, I followed the 10.6 install guide and used the software listed there, MultiBeast - Snow Leopard 3.10.1, iBoot 3.3.0
Then you have Chimera. You should also have a folder /Extra in your root. Did you run update helper and 10.6.8 update Combo?

There is /Extra there. At the time Sandy Bridge didn't mean anything to me, and I follow the guide without doing the Update Helper part, I just went on with the 10.6.8 combo part. I later downloaded the Update Helper to look at it and saw it said to run it before the Combo Update. By then was too late.. Does it mean I have to re-do the install. I don't mind doing it, it seems to go smoothly to the bottom of the guide.

I would try run update helper then run 10.6.8 update again first to see if that works before doing a new install.
