Hi there, it's a bit I am undecided if to sell my notebook (dell inspiron gaming 7567) and buy a MacBook Pro. I'd like to try to build a hackintosh with my notebook. But since it uses nvidia Optimus, I won't be able to use the dedicated graphics. In the forum I also tried to figure out if someone had other problems, and yes, it seems sound has problems too. SonI started to state the fact that, in general, laptops have so much more problems in the hackintosh world than desktops. Of course it depends from the fact that you cannot choose the right hardware.
I don't say anything new, and if it was just a matter of work to do to achieve a good compatibility, then it would even be interesting. But the problem is that you can achieve good results and maximum performance just if you get a notebook with the right spec and without dedicated graphics. Something in the range of a MacBook Pro 13.
And so it came the crazy crazy idea. Is really crazy, but damn, better to throw ideas on the table than keep them in a coffin judging them too stupid. I am not able to realize it, but I can share it with you, and maybe some people in here can develop something from this.
In this forum there is plenty of people who knows very well how to program (of course I am not talking about me, I am really dumb on this side...). Why don't we build our custom windows notebook, built from scratch to be perfect to get an hackintosh process.
If I undertand well, the switching between graphics, in MacBook Pros, is something software. I tried to make a search online to understand if there is something hardware, but I found just few infos. So, if is something software, my idea is to build a notebook more like a desktop, without hardware switch like nvidia Optimus, and capable to use both graphics cards.
In my dream this laptop should be refined and beautiful, like a razer or a gigabyte aero 15. It should have a good graphic card, a great screen quality and resolution, 2 m2 ssds slots, upgradable ram, a huge battery, a great build quality, a touchpad perfect for OS X, an easy to hack sound codec, and a great sound. Something similar to gigabyte aero 15 but without Optimus technology.
Then it would be great if it would be possible to choose components, like with a barebone. You could be able to choose CPU, gpu, kind of screen (glossy or matte), and so on. Of course all the options should include just easy to hackintosh components.
This should be sold as a WINDOWS notebook, which just happens to be easy to hack. And as a Windows machine, it would be important to build a software switch between graphics cards for Windows as well.
Maybe is crazy, maybe it would be too expensive to realize (kickstarter campaign for an elegant, powerful, more affordable and customizable notebook?). Maybe what I wrote is just impossible and I presumed just a box of ********. Maybe is just a crazy Frankenstein I had a nightmare about. But hey, just throwing this idea on the table. What do you think?

The amount of engineering and money that has to go through this is insane. Essentially you're asking is an entire new laptop line, but the ability to choose components? Is that with building or just choosing on a website? Besides you would have to reinvent graphics switching, which without source code is a massive undertaking, I'd even say impossible.

As I said, is a crazy idea, and I am quite aware I have 0% chance to do it myself. But I wouldn't be that drastic. About graphichs switching, for what I understood, in osx is system based, and reading on, in windows there is something similar. Systems without nvidia optimus and gsync have something called "Microsoft Hybrid Graphics Mode". I have to investigate about it.
In matter of realizing it, you can think to find some collaboration, for example. there are some brands specialized in barebones notebooks, like sager or clevo. You can think to design a model in collaboration with some brand like this, and then sell it with another brand. And they have the knowledge needed to design the hardware.
Again, I know, is a crazy idea. Really crazy, and probably undoable. I am just brainstorming right here, and maybe someone is able to use this idea to build something, even very different. As Romans said, "Velle est posse".

They already exist.

They're called a Clevo or a Metabox, depending on the reseller.

They're also really crap and poorly finished.
