Hello!

I want to use two SSD´s, each one will have it´s own OS, Sierra and Win10.
My goal is to fully install the OS in one SSD, swap the SSD, install the other OS, plug both and control which one is going to boot by changing the boot order in BIOS.

Since I´m not going to keep changing the OS everytime, I think that having a bootloader every single time is unecessary and would only add precious seconds to boot time.

I´ve been looking for this information in a few places, but everyone is still having inconsistent conclusions.

Will it work? Is it possible to not use a bootloader since I´m having an entire SSD for each OS instead of partitioning only one?

Thanks!

@Chrisjacobsen, please update your profile (personal details) with your Motherboard or Make/Model, CPU and Graphics Card.

Sorry about that! I just bought the components, like less than a week. Will do it now.

A boot loader is a necessity - how else are you going to get your system to boot? Win10 installer installs one for you, for Mac OS you must install it yourself. as for using the BIOS to select your OS, if that is what you want to do just make the Win10 drive first in BBS boot order and it will always boot Win10 unless you interrupt and boot to BIOS to select Sierra.

Hello Going Bald!

I just realized I might have made the question in a wrong way. You´re right, bootloader IS needed to boot the system.

What I meant to say is that I don´t want to be prompted by the bootloader to choose which OS to load.

My goal is to choose the OS by rearranging the SSD´s order in BIOS.

I was just afraid that I could run into some sort of conflict by using this method, but I will take your answer as conclusive.

Thank you very much!

One or the other should be default (the one you use most often) - make that one first in boot order.
