Hi guys,

I've been inactive for a while but decided to jump back into the Hackintosh world a bit. I purchased the following components and have been trying to get everything working:

Gigabyte GA-Z170X-DESIGNARE
ASUS AMD R9 Nano (from a previous build)
Intel i7-6700K
32 GB DDR4 RAM

I'm able to get macOS 10.12.5 loaded up and install my ethernet drivers with Multibeast to get internet using the AppleGB v5.3.5.3 kext.

The one thing stumping me at the moment is this R9 Nano. I've posted a video here:

Essentially, the graphics are super laggy and I get weird lines going horizontally across the screen when I login. If I click on the Launchpad icon, everything goes laggy. Also, it doesn't look like my menu bar and dock are transparent - so something is not right.

I've scoured forums for the answer but am not really understanding all the lingo used in the threads these days. Any help would be much appreciated. I noticed a thread where one guy gave up and used Nvidia graphics instead. I don't want to have to do that.

Thanks!

Follow up/More info:

I forgot to mention that I've taken a look at this thread here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/r9-nano-in-sierra-os.200756/

And have followed in the same footsteps as cadet-superstar except when I add my Device ID to AMDRadeonX4100.kext (uses Baffin) I'm able to boot but I get what looks like a stuck boot screen with a little bit of artifact in the middle upper right screen. I'll post a pic soon.

Attached photo as I stated above.

On my default install, kextstat shows the following:

Code:
   94    2 0xffffff7f822e2000 0x156000   0x156000   com.apple.kext.AMDSupport (1.5.1) 90685444-2E99-3B31-ACAA-5CD4D03E506E <93 85 12 11 7 5 4 3 1>
   95    0 0xffffff7f82d5d000 0x1ff000   0x1ff000   com.apple.kext.AMD9000Controller (1.5.1) 14B7654C-E56A-3B89-9A77-37536B1BCA7C <94 85 12 11 5 4 3 1>
   98    0 0xffffff7f82f5c000 0x27000    0x27000    com.apple.kext.AMDFramebuffer (1.5.1) F1172F06-F160-39C1-8069-D422C29B98C6 <94 85 12 11 7 5 4 3 1>

The only way I'm able to load the AMDRadeonX4100.kext is by removing the entry "0X73001002" from AMD9000Controller.kext and placing that entry into AMDRadeonX4100.kext. When I do that, the kext gets loaded, but my resolution is very low and graphics acceleration is still horrible. Additionally, when I load AMDRadeonX4100.kext, it no longer loads the AMDFramebuffer.

I'm stumped. I'm probably not doing something correctly, but I don't know what it is.

No one else out there with an R9 Nano? I'm really trying to avoid using Nvidia with this build...

did you make it work finally?

@cjbirk,

I dont think AMD R9 Nano is officially supported by MacOS ... its not listed in the AMD Compatibility Guide :-

However there are some reports of being able to get it work by faking its deviceID, have a look here:-

Thanks again @jaymonkey !
I realised that I have more limited space than I thought. So, this option is not for me even with the hard way of making it work. I'll go for the Radeon Pro WX 4100 suggested by @bufferOverflow

@soklasokla,

Radeon Pro WX 4100 is a very capable GPU and works very well with MacOS ..
Very good compute performance for its size.

Cheers
