GA-Z170X-UD5 using cloverALC was working, but I had annoying static when booting and a few pops here and there.

Fix is to plug speakers in BLACK connector instead of GREEN connector, then select 2nd LINE OUT in system preferences. Works like a dream now!
 
It should be noted that if you dual boot to windows, that won't work though, since in windows, using the black connector for output requires Realtek drivers, and those screw up the mac side of audio from what I read (haven't tested though)
